About us

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we're on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We're looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do

The Global Technology - Data & Analytics team builds and operates the data platforms that power Viasat's business decisions. We're in the middle of a meaningful shift - migrating from an Azure/SAP-centric stack to a modern GCP foundation built on BigQuery, Airbyte, DBT, Prefect, and Looker - and we need someone who wants to build, not just maintain.

You'll work directly alongside our Platform Lead and a distributed team across the US, UK, and India to deliver reliable, observable, and governed data capabilities. Your work will directly power enterprise data products in Time/Labor, Procurement, HR, and executive visibility dashboards. You'll also have early exposure to our Agentic AI development initiative.

If you're the kind of person who gets curious about why a pipeline broke at 2am and wants to fix it properly - this is your team.

This is a site‑based role, employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day workweek.

The day-to-day

  • Build and maintain ELT/ETL pipelines using Airbyte and DBT on GCP/BigQuery
  • Orchestrate and monitor workflows in Prefect
  • Support BigQuery dataset management, optimization, and access governance
  • Participate in the migration of legacy Azure pipelines to GCP - running both stacks in parallel during transition
  • Monitor pipeline health using Grafana, Azure Monitor, and GCP observability tools
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code using Terraform; maintain YAML configs and GitHub/Azure DevOps pull request workflows
  • Coordinate daily with offshore and contractor teams on escalations, handoffs, and delivery
  • Maintain runbooks, operational logs, and documentation with consistency and care

What you'll need

  • Solid SQL and Python skills - comfortable writing queries, scripts, and debugging data issues
  • Understanding of ELT/ETL pipeline concepts and how data moves through cloud environments
  • Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform (GCP or Azure - we'll teach the other)
  • Comfort with Git-based workflows: branching, pull requests, code review Organized, thorough documentation habits - you'll produce records others rely on
  • Able to work independently across time zones and surface decisions quickly
  • Must be a US Citizen

What will help you on the job

  • Hands-on experience with DBT, Airbyte, Prefect, BigQuery, or Looker
  • Exposure to SRE concepts: SLOs, alerting, MTTR, incident triage
  • Familiarity with Terraform or infrastructure-as-code patterns
  • Experience with BI platforms (Looker, Power BI, SAC, OBIEE) - even at admin/support level
  • Basic scripting in Bash or PowerShell for operational tasks
  • Curiosity about AI-assisted workflows and automation - we're building there now Experience or comfort working with global distributed teams

Salary range

$121,000.00 - $191,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $150,000.00- $225,000.00/ annually

At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
