About the role

We are seeking a knowledgeable and organized Catholic Coordinator of Education to support the Catholic community of faith at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort Chapel in Beaufort, South Carolina. This is a part-time contracted position (up to 14 hours per week) serving active-duty Marines, Navy personnel, and their families through a full Catholic Religious Education Program (CREP).

You will work under the supervision of the Catholic Priest and Command Chaplain, taking the lead on planning, coordinating, and delivering religious education for children, youth, and adults - from CCD and sacramental preparation to adult faith formation and Parish Council support.

This is a meaningful opportunity to serve a military faith community that is actively growing its religious education program and needs a dedicated professional to bring it together.

What you'll do

Religious education coordination

  • Coordinate and deliver Catholic Religious Education Programs (CREP) including CCD for grades K 8, High School Confirmation, monthly HS Religious Education courses, and adult faith formation
  • Prepare students for First Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, Baptism, and RCIA
  • Design and coordinate curriculum for all classes and academic-religious events throughout the year
  • Review religious education materials and make curriculum recommendations to the Catholic Priest

Teaching team leadership

  • Recruit, train, and assess Catholic religious education teachers
  • Coordinate teacher meetings, parent conferences, and Catholic workshops throughout the year
  • Train and lead the Children's Liturgy of the Word team

Program administration

  • Maintain attendance records, personal records, and program statistics
  • Coordinate scheduling and allocation of chapel spaces for CREP activities
  • Prepare and submit a religious education budget each June for the following fiscal year
  • Coordinate supply and materials ordering through chapel appropriated funds
  • Prepare bulletins, memoranda, and base media publicity for CREP events

Parish and community engagement

  • Attend and support Parish Council meetings; recruit new members; publish agendas and minutes
  • Organize fellowships and special occasion events (First Communion, Confirmation, holidays)
  • Liaise with the Command Religious Program on non-faith-specific outreach such as cookouts and Vacation Bible School
Schedule

Up to 14 hours per week, with required availability on Sunday mornings and weekly staff meetings. Remaining hours are on a flexible weekday schedule set in coordination with the Command Chaplain and Catholic Priest. The program calendar has natural seasonal variation.

What we're looking for

Required

  • Associate's degree or a minimum of one year of experience as a religious education teacher
  • Excellent working knowledge of Roman Catholic doctrine, liturgy, sacraments, history, customs, and Church organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work under the direction of a Catholic Priest
  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing - a letter from your current priest will be required

Preferred

  • Experience managing a multi-session religious education program for adults and children (parish-based or diocesan programs are considered equally relevant)
  • Experience working with or within a military chapel community
  • Strong organizational, managerial, and leadership skills
  • Ability to mentor and develop volunteer teachers and leaders
  • Sensitivity to religious pluralism and comfort working in a diverse faith environment
Work environment

You will have a dedicated desk in the Catholic annex of the MCAS Beaufort Chapel, adjacent to the Catholic Priest's office. The government provides a computer (with Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro), an office phone, and storage space for program materials. All curriculum, supplies, and consumables are funded through the Chapel budget or Religious Offering Fund - you are not responsible for those costs.

Location

MCAS Beaufort, Beaufort, SC - on-site position. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain base access credentials through DBIDS. Local candidates or those able to reliably commute to Beaufort are strongly preferred.

To apply

Please submit the following:

  • A brief statement of interest describing your relevant experience
  • Your resume or CV
  • Contact information for at least two professional or ministry references
  • A letter from your current Catholic priest confirming you are a practicing Catholic in good standing with knowledge of Roman Catholic doctrine
