Our company is seeking a dynamic and experienced Category Manager for Direct/Indirect Materials in the Engineering industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing both direct and indirect categories, with a particular focus on materials in the engineering sector. This position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our strategic procurement initiatives, driving cost savings and avoidance while ensuring the highest quality of materials for our operations.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement category management strategies for direct and indirect materials, including defining the category, analyzing spend, understanding market trends, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and avoidance.
2. Negotiate pricing and contracts with suppliers to ensure the best value for the company.
3. Manage relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring their needs are met and their input is considered in category management decisions.
4. Conduct regular reviews of supplier performance, taking action as necessary to address any issues.
5. Monitor and report on category performance, providing regular updates to senior management on cost savings, cost avoidance, and other key metrics.
6. Stay abreast of trends and developments in the commodities market, using this knowledge to inform category management strategies.
7. Work closely with other departments to understand their material needs and ensure these are met through effective category management.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in category management, with a focus on direct and indirect materials in the engineering industry.
2. Proven track record of achieving cost savings and avoidance through effective category management.
3. Strong negotiation skills, with experience negotiating pricing and contracts with suppliers.
4. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
5. In-depth knowledge of the commodities market and its impact on material costs.
6. Experience with reporting on category performance, including cost savings, cost avoidance, and other key metrics.
7. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze spend data and market trends to inform category management strategies.
8. Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
