Job Opening: Cataloging Specialist

Position Summary:
ZAI is seeking a qualified Cataloging Specialist to support the ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) program for the U.S. Department of Education. This position involves creating digital records using an internet-based workflow system for both journal and non-journal content. Responsibilities include cataloging, abstracting, and applying metadata using ERIC's Style Guide.
Principal Duties and Essential Job Functions:
Create, edit, and modify bibliographic records following established rules and procedures.
Apply accurate cataloging, metadata, and indexing for ERIC database content.
Write original abstracts based on full-text documents or revise existing author abstracts for clarity and accuracy.
Ensure accuracy and adherence to metadata standards through quality control.
Participate in project meetings, work groups, and production-related activities.
Meet daily production and quality targets in a team-oriented environment.
Qualifications:
Recent experience and/or coursework in cataloging, abstracting, editing, or proofreading.
Strong abstracting skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with universal cataloging standards and bibliographic databases preferred.
Experience with database search and retrieval.
Knowledge of the field of education and subject indexing, especially with the ERIC Thesaurus, is a plus.
Experience using the ERIC database is advantageous.
Ability to work efficiently in a virtual, collaborative team environment.
Self-motivated, responsible, and detail-oriented with excellent communication skills.
Ability to attend initial training (in-person or virtual) and biannual meetings in Herndon, VA.
Public Trust Clearance preferred, or must be eligible to obtain one.
Education:
MLS (Master of Library Science) degree required.
Related experience or background in Education is preferred.
