Position: Cashier- Full Time / Part Time

Reports to: Store Manager & Store Supervisor/Management Team

Direct Reports: None

Schedule: Must be able to work opening shifts (7:30AM), closing shifts (until 8PM), mid-day shifts, and one weekend day.

Position Philosophy:

The Cashier’s primary responsibility is to provide exceptional customer service at all times while creating a fast, friendly, and accurate checkout experience. The Cashier serves as the final point of contact for customers and plays a key role in ensuring every customer leaves with a positive impression of the store.

In addition to front-end responsibilities, the Cashier will contribute to the overall upkeep of the store. This includes maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked checkout area, as well as supporting general store needs as assigned.

The Cashier will assist with processing transactions, handling returns, promoting store programs such as Ace Rewards, and helping direct customers to the appropriate departments. During slower periods, the Cashier will support tasks such as restocking front-end merchandise, organizing go-backs, light cleaning, and assisting team members as needed.

Cashiers are expected to work collaboratively with all departments to ensure smooth store operations and a consistent, high-quality customer experience.

Customer Service:

  • Provide a positive representation of Owenhouse Ace Hardware.
  • Proactively assist customers in solving problems.
  • Greet customers entering and throughout the store.
  • Thank customers when finished and when they are leaving the store.
  • Possess a friendly outgoing demeanor.
  • Work well with customers as well as associates.
  • Ensure all pages and calls are answered promptly, courteously and effectively.
  • Forward any customer complaint that cannot be handled to a member of management.
  • Possess strong product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and location of products.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Store Operations:

  • Assist in creating a positive, professional and safe work environment.
  • Assist with receiving, checking in and stocking of merchandise throughout the store.
  • Assist with maintaining back stock levels.
  • Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room and outdoor merchandise area.
  • Assist with providing a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and ad merchandise.
  • Assist with merchandise resets through the store.
  • Ensure signage is current throughout the store.
  • Communicate any Store Support Center issue to the Store Manager for follow up.
  • Communicate any merchandising, cost control or sales idea to the Store Manager.
  • Participate in store meetings.
  • Be professional in appearance and actions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Greet customers entering and throughout the store. Thank customers by name, when possible, when they are leaving the store.
  • Project a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as associates.
  • Answer and monitor all calls and pages promptly, courteously and effectively.
  • Communicate any problem or issue that requires management assistance.
  • Continually build product knowledge base and possess the ability to assist customers with store layout and product location.
  • Assist in pricing, stocking, marking and bagging of merchandise.
  • Be aware & conscious of any shoplifting activity. Notify a Supervisor immediately.

Register Operations:

  • Follow all cash register transaction procedures.
  • Responsible for accurately counting change back to customers.
  • Clear customer checkout lines quickly and efficiently.
  • Adhere to any Store program or promotion that may require implementation at the cash registers.
  • Participate in all store and Cashier meetings.

Front End Appearance and Upkeep:

  • Keep the front end, including checkout areas and entrance doors neat and clean at all times. Face and dust front end.
  • Assist with keeping impulse counters stocked and faced, rotate fresh merchandise in as seasons change.
  • Ensure fresh ads are stocked in shopping carts at all times.
  • Ensure forms and supplies are stocked at all times.
  • Assist with decorating the front end.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Other Essential Requirements:

High School or GED equivalent. 

Clean & Clear Driving Record

Experience:

Retail experience preferred. 

Customer service experience preferred. 

Physical Demands:

Standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and climbing.
