JOB SUMMARY

Assist Public Health Services Department (PHSD) staff and clients, assist PHSD staff with clinic workflow and patient processing, assist clients with data collection, screening, scheduling, follow-up, referrals, and other case management functions, and perform duties in compliance with state and Federal regulations and County policies and procedures under basic supervision.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist PHSD clients with information on a variety of clinical service programs, including wellness, disease screening, and family planning and perform duties within scope of authority and training and in compliance with County policies.
  • Provide case management services for Public Health Services Department (PHSD) clients, collect data, review case file documents for accuracy and completeness, update records as needed, assist clients with applications, screen and pre-counsel patients, schedule appointments and referrals, file charts and medical documents, and call patients to discuss test results.
  • Provide educational material and personalized information to clients during pre-screening procedures.
  • Assist clients in accessing other health care and community services programs.
  • Maintain case file records and collect, compile, and report data on PHSD clinic programs.
  • Prepare and review billing information and update medical records computer system.
  • Clean and prepare clinic examination rooms and stock rooms with supplies, medications, and educational materials.
  • Assist professional staff with patient examinations as directed.
  • Assist with community outreach programs and special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in a medical or social services program.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual English-Spanish language skills.
  • Arizona residents must have a valid Arizona Driver's License upon hire; newly established Arizona Residents must have one within 30 days of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of federal and state public health program regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of base management methods, practices, and procedures for health services clinic patients.
  • Knowledge of regional community service agencies, community resources, public health programs, and other public assistance programs for appropriate referrals.
  • Knowledge of principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Skill in compiling and reporting PHSD data, preparing and maintaining accurate records, and generating reports.
  • Skill in assisting with the provision of clinical nursing services and patient care.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
  • Ability to present public health information to at-risk clients and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other agencies, and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the ability to finger, handle, perform repetitive motion, speak, hear, stand, walk, and demonstrate visual and mental acuity.

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.
