The Career Counselor I supports individuals with disabilitiesprimarily those receiving services through OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities) and/or ACCES-VR (Adult Career and Continuing Education Services Vocational Rehabilitation)in identifying, preparing for, and maintaining meaningful employment. The Career Counselor provides vocational counseling, job coaching, and personalized support to help individuals achieve their career goals. This position involves collaboration with employers, families, and other agencies, which requires local travel in the Capital Region. Candidates must be organized, adaptable, and able to manage a dynamic schedule based on client needs. The Career Counselor I is responsible for aligning and demonstrating agency values in carrying out the duties of this position.
What You'll Do:
Manage a caseload of individuals receiving OPWDD and/or ACCES-VR services
Assess individuals interests, strengths, and employment goals using person-centered planning
Provide vocational counseling & guidance tailored to each individuals abilities and career interests
Assist individuals in developing job-readiness skills and preparing for interviews and job searches
Provide on-the-job coaching to support individuals in learning and performing job tasks
Maintain regular communication with employers, supervisors, and other stakeholders to support job success
Offer travel training to ensure individuals can safely and independently commute to work
Build and maintain relationships with local employers to identify job and internship opportunities
Accurately document services provided, progress, and outcomes in case notes and reports
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
High School Diploma
Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities
Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Degree in Human Services or related field
Experience providing employment services to individuals with disabilities
Familiarity with ACCES-VR and/or OPWDD HCBS Waiver Services
Experience managing a caseload and providing community-based services

Salary Description
$22 - $28 an hour
