  • The position is 20 - 25 hours per week.
  • Evening availability required for five evenings(dates to be determined collaboratively).
  • Some flexibility in scheduling daytime hours is available within the Career Center's open hours to assist with office coverage.

Pay Rate $25/hour Minimum Experience/Education

  • Master's degree or current enrollment in a graduate program
  • Experience working with college students or young professionals in a coaching, advising, or mentoring role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

  • Experience presenting or facilitating in classroom or workshop settings
  • Knowledge of career development theory or best practices

Duties and Responsibilities

UNC Charlotte's Career Center is seeking a dynamic and student-focused professional to serve as a Part-Time Career Coach. This individual will support undergraduate, graduate students and alumni through one-on-one career coaching appointments, drop-in assistance, and presentations. The role offers the opportunity to directly impact students' career development and readiness while collaborating with a dedicated team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized career coaching appointments on topics such as resumes, job/internship search strategies, interviewing, graduate school prep, and career exploration.
  • Administer and interpret assessments measuring interests, skills, values, and abilities
  • Review and provide actionable feedback on resumes, cover letters, and professional online profiles
  • Conduct practice interviews and provide tailored interview preparation and feedback
  • Support in the execution of career events, such as career fairs, employer panels, and networking events, as needed
  • Facilitate career development presentations and workshops.
  • Support drop-in coaching services during assigned shifts.
  • Provide evening coverage on five evenings throughout the term, to be scheduled collaboratively with teammates.
  • Maintain accurate appointment records and notes.

  • Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.

However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan and will be notified of instructions.
