Job Description
To connect high school students with community college programs that will assist in preparing for career goals.
Essential Responsibilities
- Communicate with all stakeholder groups with regard to career pathway opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with school counselors and Career Development Coordinators on pathway development aligned with Career Clusters.
- Bridge seamless student communications between college and school system.
- Support student success and retention through attendance tracking and communication between community college instructors and high school data managers.
- Provide professional development for middle school teachers and counselors, and high school teachers, counselors, and Career Development Coordinators.
- Assist counselors and Career Development Coordinators in scheduling to facilitate certificate completion.
- Advise students on college transfer and career pathways using resources such as the UNC System transfer guides.
- Assist students and schools in scheduling students for correct academic courses associated with career pathways.
- Connect students to service learning, job shadowing, and internship opportunities.
- Enhance access to NCC for underrepresented students.
- Coach students on successfully completing online courses in partial fulfillment of certificate completion.
- Enhance access to career pathway choices for the underrepresented and those at risk of not pursuing higher education.
- Disseminate information and effectively and positively communicate with high school personnel regarding the CCP program to all stakeholder groups.
- Advise students regarding the CCP Program, including college transfer and CTE pathways.
- Assure that all student enrollment and registration materials are accurately submitted.
- Work collaboratively with high school and college personnel to recruit and retain CCP students.
- Understand and explain success strategies to students for on campus and online courses.
- Create and share weekly student progress reports with high school personnel.
- Respond to instructor and partner communications and document student contacts.
- Respond to daily emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
- Attend professional development to enhance leadership and advising skills.
- Adhere to the MOU between Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) and Nash Community College.
- Meet NCPS requirements to work in middle and high school settings (i.e. background check).
- Create programs and events to enhance enrollment and retention.
- Operate under the policies and procedures of Nash Community College.
- Participate in professional development activities provided by NCC.
- Participate in College events and activities.
- Maintain regular on-site attendance during normal hours of college operations consistent with expectations and College policies and procedures.
- Initiate and answer telephone calls and video conference calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned which contribute to the efficient and effective operation of NCC.
- Serve on various committees as assigned.
- Participate in and support ongoing assessment, planning and evaluation to improve student learning and retention.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Master's degree preferred. Two (2) years directly related experience working with high school students and career advising. Must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Related experience in academic advising and working with public schools to create partnerships and help students create plans for post-secondary success. Special consideration will be given to individuals with a high school counseling background and/or experience at the community college, four year college, or university level with a background in appreciative advising.
