Position Highlights

This academic faculty role includes an appointment at a prestigious medical school and offers a comprehensive three-year cardiovascular training program within a quaternary care center. Physicians will gain full-spectrum exposure across various specialties, including cardiovascular imaging, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, heart failure, adult congenital heart disease, cardio-oncology, vascular medicine, women’s cardiovascular health, sports cardiology, and a nationally recognized center of excellence for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The program is based in a hospital with approximately 900 beds, with plans for a new state-of-the-art facility to open in 2027, and includes dedicated time for research and electives.

The Program Director (PD) will oversee the administration and educational supervision of fellows in the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship, ensuring adherence to the policies and procedures of our organization. The PD will manage the initial accreditation process through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and maintain compliance with ACGME standards thereafter.

  • Foster an educational environment that meets ACGME competency areas

  • Develop, review, and update the didactic curriculum

  • Ensure compliance at all participating training sites

  • Lead recruitment, assessment, and promotion of fellows, as well as participate in education- and program-related committees

  • Provide ongoing faculty development and improvement opportunities

  • Offer mentorship and guidance to fellows

  • Supervise program coordinator responsibilities

Required Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree

  • Active Medical License in good standing with the North Carolina Medical Board

  • Current certification in Cardiovascular Disease from the American Board of Internal Medicine

  • At least three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience in an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency or Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

  • Ongoing clinical practice and academic achievements in cardiovascular disease, which may include publications, educational program development, or research

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities

  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for effective fellowship program administration
