Opportunity Overview
We are seeking two (2) Board Certified / Board Eligible Cardiothoracic Surgeons to provide comprehensive onsite cardiothoracic surgical services at a major federal healthcare facility in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
This is an excellent opportunity for a surgeon located anywhere in the United States who is open to relocating to Puerto Rico. Relocation assistance and room & board support will be structured to ensure a smooth transition.
This long-term contract offers stability, meaningful patient impact, and the ability to practice full-scope cardiothoracic surgery in a hospital-based setting serving a veteran population.

Scope of Practice
The selected surgeon(s) will provide comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical care including:
Open-heart surgery
Inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department evaluations
Pre- and post-operative management
Cardiothoracic surgery consults
Permanent pacemaker implantation (emergency cases)
Pacemaker lead extraction (backup)
Pericardial window and pericardiectomy procedures
Backup for Interventional Cardiology (PCI) cases
Cath Lab support (scheduled and emergency)
Services are performed onsite in an operating room and hospital-based setting.
Coverage Structure
Two credentialed surgeons are required to ensure continuous coverage.
Scheduled Elective Procedures & Clinics
Mondays & Wednesdays | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
On-Call Coverage
Weeknights (Mon & Wed) | 3:30 PM – 7:00 AM
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, weekends & holidays | 24-hour coverage
Must be onsite within one (1) hour for emergency cases
Participation in weekly case review meetings required.
Qualifications
MD or DO
Current, full, unrestricted U.S. medical license (any state)
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery
Active BLS and ACLS certification
Ability to meet federal credentialing standards
