The Cardiac Cath & EP Lab at Banner Heart Hospital provides diagnostic and interventional Cardiac and Electrophysiology procedures to the adult patient population. With 5 Cardiac Cath rooms and 3 Electrophysiology rooms, we are a full-service cardiovascular lab providing minimally invasive care for coronary, peripheral, electrophysiology and structural heart patients. As a Cardiology Interventional Technologist, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that performs 11,000 procedures a year serving approximately 5,900 patients. The technologist is an integral part of the EP team and is responsible for many duties, including medical imaging responsibilities such as, scrubbing, circulating and monitoring during the procedure. The special procedure technologist is an active partner with the physician during the case and is essential to the procedure.

Work Schedule: Enjoy 3 12's between Monday-Friday, 6:30AM-7PM; Weekend, holiday and night call is required.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position, under the direction of a qualified physician, assists in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures on patients. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care\treatment to patient population.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Under the direction of a qualified physician assists in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures to treat heart disease in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Performs/reviews a baseline patient evaluation as defined by scope of practice and facility. Evaluates patients' response to diagnosis, interventional maneuvers and medications during procedures.

  2. Operates all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used for procedures efficiently. Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance in area of operation. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to all safety policies.

  3. Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and techniques, i.e. knowledge of normal and abnormal ECG rhythms and/or lead changes, various hemodynamic values, normal and abnormal pressures, ST elevation/depression. Monitors and records ECG and pressure waves during the procedures. Provides other aspects of patient care as needed.

  4. Demonstrates the principles of aseptic and sterile techniques as well as universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.

  5. Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to the scope of practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.

  6. This position works under the direction of a physician. Internal customers: Physicians, all levels of nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Completion of a Cardiovascular Invasive program or equivalent experience. BLS required. ACLS may be required depending on assignment.

Must have successfully passed the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) exams. May require national certification, American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, and licensure by state regulatory agency if applicable.

This position requires extensive clinical knowledge typically achieved with 2+ years of experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab in a hospital setting or meeting the requirements of certification board. The position requires the ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations. The position requires the ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly and the ability to respond quickly to the needs of the health care staff and patient.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
