Cardiogenic Shock Coordinator - Mercy Health Cincinnati Market

Position requires travel to Mercy's Cincinnati hospitals

Job Summary:

The Cardiogenic Shock Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day coordination and operational oversight of advanced mechanical circulatory support (Ventricular Assist Device / IABP/ ECMO/ Impella) including education and staff development of the market acute care sites.

Essential Functions:

  • In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team (cardiology, pulmonary critical care, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular surgery ) participates in the program development and care coordination of patients requiring evaluation for, or placement of, mechanical circulatory support.
  • Collaboration and support to all departments caring for cardiogenic shock patients. Helps to facilitate processes to identify and initiate care for this patient population.
  • Facilitates the accomplishment of program goals as set by the Mercy Heart Institute.
  • Coordinates patient, family, staff and community education programs, protocol and care coordination, and new project/device implementation.
  • Serves as support for staff and patients requiring MCS
  • Provides care direction and coordination for the entire spectrum of the care of patients requiring mechanical cardiac assist. Facilitates coordination of services and care, including but not limited to: clinical rounds, teaching rounds, and equipment rounds. Provides care delivery support and technical support for clinical teams.
  • Serves as a liaison between the MCS program and clinical teams as needed. Provides needed documentation and assessments of patients related to the reimbursement needs of the hospital.
  • Promotes program goals within the service area. Serves as a resource for program development and facilitates relationships with referral bases, working with regional development directors and marketing. Provides follow-up to MCS referred patients.
  • Data collection and research: Assists with outcome tracking, quality assurance data collection, MCS data base entry, and research activities.
  • Education: Provides training and education appropriate for the needs of the MCS program.
  • Participates in professional organizations and activities related to mechanical circulatory support at the local, state, national and international levels. Maintains professional expertise and knowledge of trends in mechanical circulatory support through independent study, conferences, professional journals and collaboration with colleagues.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing (required)

Required Licensing & Certifications:

  • Current RN license in state of Ohio (required)
  • ACLS (required)
  • Certified ECMO Specialist Adult (CES-A) Certification (required within the first 12 months)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Certified Superuser & Johnson and Johnson Medtech Course completion (required within the first 12 months)
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse Certification (CCRN) (required within the first 12 months of hire)

Experience:

  • 2 years of cardiac ICU clinical experience (required)
  • 2 years of bedside management of PA catheters, Ventricular Assist Devices, IABP, ECMO (required)
  • Advanced understanding of Mechanical Circulatory Support clinical management (required)
