Lead a 37-bed Cardiac Stepdown unit at a 600+ bed acute care hospital in Plano, Texas, recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and Collin County's first Level I Trauma Center. This Nurse Manager role provides 24/7 accountability for 60 FTEs, delivering individualized, goal-directed cardiac nursing care in a facility offering advanced cardiovascular programs, cancer treatment, bariatric surgery, wound care, inpatient rehabilitation, women's and children's services with Level 3 NICU, and the region's first burn center. The position reports to the Director of PCU with emphasis on patient safety, quality outcomes, and staff development using Synergy Model and evidence-based practices. Responsibilities
Provide 24/7 accountability and responsibility for 37-bed Cardiac Stepdown unit ensuring optimal climate for individualized, goal-directed nursing care.
Develop and implement plans for delivery of evidence-based cardiac nursing care through nursing process and Synergy Model framework.
Demonstrate expertise in selecting, managing, and developing 60 FTE unit-based staff to maintain clinical excellence and engagement.
Review budget and assume responsibility for maintaining operating expenses at target levels while ensuring quality care delivery.
Delegate tasks appropriate to meet individual patient needs and align with employee skills and competencies.
Develop and implement care delivery plans with patient safety as primary goal in accordance with organizational mission and values.
Promote employee satisfaction, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, continuous performance improvement, and community involvement.
Follow established guidelines for compliance with infection prevention and Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals and practices.
Actively seek ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality care, or service delivery.
Demonstrate knowledge of occurrence reporting system, report trends to staff quarterly, and use information to improve patient safety.
Ensure staff education on guidelines for reporting significant medical errors or unanticipated outcomes resulting in patient harm.
Promote involvement of self and staff in health promotion, educational community activities, and nursing research.
Support organizational goals for Magnet or Pathways excellence standards and maintain specialty certification requirements.
Collaborate with Director of PCU and interdisciplinary teams to optimize cardiac stepdown operations and patient outcomes.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited program
Current Texas RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
Minimum 2 years of recent acute care cardiac care leadership experience with progressive leadership background
Previous experience at Magnet-designated or Pathways facilities (required)
National specialty certification or plan to achieve within 1 year of hire
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required
Strong leadership, communication, and financial management skills
Expertise in cardiac stepdown operations and progressive care nursing
Preferred:
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master's Degree in related field
PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) or cardiac specialty certification
Experience in Level I Trauma Centers or Comprehensive Stroke Centers
Background in budget management and cost optimization
