Description

Cary is seeking a Capital Asset Coordinator to serve as the backbone of our asset management and capital maintenance operations. In this role you will drive capital maintenance projects from planning through completion, ensuring work is delivered on time, on budget, and to standard. Youll be a key connector across the organization, partnering with internal teams to anticipate needs, align priorities, and keep stakeholders informed every step of the way.

The Capital Asset Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating municipal capital improvement and asset management projects. This position manages public capital projects and Public Works funded projects while assisting other project managers and Town departments on a range of facility, transportation, stormwater and utility projects and initiatives. The coordinator performs difficult professional work participating in the planning, design, construction and project management of a variety of public projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Capital Asset Manager.

Typical Tasks

Performs project management, design implementation and construction administration of various public projects;

Develops extensive requests for qualifications (RFQ) or requests for proposals (RFP) in support of the development of various public projects in addition to other procurement documents;

Manages project budgets including preparation of project cost estimates, managing change orders and processing payment application;

Participates in the preparation and administration of the department's Capital Improvement Plan and budget;

Oversees capital repair and capital maintenance projects for Public Works;

Communicates with various town staff as to status of project updates and the greater public when required in coordinated effort with 311 platforms;

Meets and confers with the public, engineers, developers, architects, governing officials, and contractors in a variety of situations and conditions, mediates disputes, resolves conflicts, and provides solutions to both technical and non-technical problems;

Serves as liaison with other Town departments and outside agencies;

Assists in department planning and implementation including working across departments as part of a team when required, working groups to revise standard details, update Town Policies, or selection committee;

Assists town staff with hazardous weather response as needed;

Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Physical Requirements

Work in this class is generally inside and sedentary. An employee must be able to move throughout town facilities freely to perform or observe work. Occasional field work is required to visit project sites and observe construction. An employee must have such visual acuity as to be able to read and write handwritten and typewritten material including being able to read a computer screen. An employee must have the ability to work safely in and around traffic and active construction sites. An employee in this class must be able to talk and hear to be able to respond to the public and other employees.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or directly related field and three years of construction/project management experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Professional Engineering (PE), and/or PMP Certification in North Carolina
  • Experience working on financially significant projects
  • Municipal experience
  • Experience making presentations to elected officials, citizen groups, or upper management

Special Requirements

Requires a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS100 and ICS700 training/certification required (provided)

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
