Job Description
Position Summary:
An Environmental Health Specialist I (EHS I) provides specialized consultation and technical services in the field of environmental health science, including education, inspections, evaluations and enforcement to promote public health and prevent disease. The individual collaborates with internal and external partners under the direct supervision of a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS). The EHS I is an in-training position with initial heavy supervision and peer support for work tasks. Once the individual is able to perform the work independently and has obtained a Registered Environmental Health Specialist license through the State of Ohio, they may be eligible for promotion to EHS II. The assigned work tasks progressively increase in complexity until the individual is able to perform independently with some supervision. The ideal candidate will display a strong commitment to the practice of public health and embrace the mission, vision and values of Canton City Public Health.

Minimum Qualifications and Credentials:
To be considered for an interview, a candidate must submit a college transcript and meet the requirements to obtain an Environmental Health Specialist in Training (EHSIT) registration from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) (https://odh.ohio.gov/know-our-programs/sanitarian- registration/welcome-to). Within six months of hire, candidate must complete ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS, 700 and ICS 800 training and any additional training prescribed by supervision to assist in completing assigned job duties.

Testing Information

Repeating an Exam
Per OAC Rule 123: 1-9-01, an applicant who has competed in a civil service examination cannot repeat that examination or take and examination for the same classification within FOUR MONTHS from the date of original examination, unless an alternative form of examination is given, or unless other standards are specified in the examination announcement.
RATING
Your name will be placed on a list of eligible candidates upon receiving a passing score. Once the list has been established, your name will remain on the list for a period of one (1) year.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO VETERANS
