Campus Security Officer Temporary

DESCRIPTION:
Edmonds College is recruiting multiple candidates to fulfill our Campus Security Officer positions. The Campus Security Officer provides general security, public safety and other customer services to the college community. Officers are expected to perform general duty security work to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, and maintain order. Officers patrol the campus on foot and in a vehicle; conduct security inspections, building lockups and escorts for community members; respond to incidents, accidents, and other emergencies and are responsible for administering CPR and First Aid; respond to fire and intrusion detection alarms, taking action as required; and assisting motorists with dead batteries and other issues. Officers may conduct preliminary investigations of college violations and non-criminal incidents.
This is a Non-permanent (9-month contract with possibility of extension up to 18months) classified position reporting to the to the Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness (SSEP)

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions. Physical strength, agility, and stamina are essential to the performance of security officer responsibilities, including the ability to climb stairways up to five flights carrying a fire extinguisher and/or first aid equipment. This ability may be tested as a condition of employment. The ability to observe and monitor people's behavior to determine compliance with prescribed standards is essential. Patrolling campus on foot and in a motor vehicle, requiring a standard driver's license, and a clean driving record is required. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language. This also includes the ability to produce clearly written documents. Those who are multilingual are strongly encouraged to apply.
WORK SCHEDULE:
9-month contract with possibility of extension up to 18-months non-permanent position. 40 hours per week with occasional overtime opportunities. SSEP is an around the clock operation, utilizing several shifts to cover security needs 7 days a week 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The schedule for this position is still to be determined, but will vary due to department needs.
COMPENSATION:
Salary range 46. The salary range is $47,988 - $54,204 annually with progressive increases to $64,440, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options, and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 3 personal leave days, and 14 vacation days per year (with incremental increases to 24 vacation days per year). Experience and training will be considered in salary placement. This position is overtime eligible and when officers are scheduled to work holidays they receive Holiday pay.
