Job Description / Essential Elements: Print
I. General Description: It is the responsibility of the District to provide a safe learning environment for all students. The campus supervisor works with District staff and students to monitor student behavior when students are on campus and to provide prevention intervention when students fail to follow school rules.
II. General Scope of Service:
a. Essential Functions
The Campus Supervisor will:
Assist administrators with campus supervision by consistent surveillance and monitoring of student behavior.
Report to administrators on matters pertinent to maintaining a safe school climate.
Become familiar with students by name and develop knowledge of students habits, as appropriate.
Provide appropriate "preventive" intervention when it becomes apparent that a conflict may develop, interacting proactively in a positive manner.
Provide encouragement to students who engage in positive interactions.
Assist in maintenance of campus cleanliness.
Maintain confidentiality in relation to student discipline files, attendance and grades.
Perform other essential functions as requested.
b. Work Environment
The employee in this position is required to work primarily in an outdoor environment. Exposure to heat, cold and inclement weather for extended periods of time is typical. Employees come in direct contact with students, teachers/staff and public. Employees may need to intercede when fights occur.
III. Qualifications:
a. The campus supervisor will have knowledge of:
School rules, district attendance and discipline policies.
Standard first aid procedures and ability to implement these strategies in an emergency.
Appropriate schoolwide and Districtwide emergency procedures as defined in District policies.
Typical adolescent characteristics and behavior patterns.
Effective "positive" communication techniques which result in the development of respectful relationships with students.
Non-verbal student communication strategies including awareness of body language, facial expressions, and tension as expressed within a group or crowd.
District positive behavior intervention support and ability to assist students in implementing these strategies.
General knowledge and understanding of electronic communication (i.e. text, email, etc.)
b. Skills
Communicates in a positive manner to school staff and students.
Continuously build and maintain supportive relationships with students.
Has ability to diffuse potentially dangerous situations with parents and students at school.
Maintains composure, professionalism and tact in dealing with students, staff, and parents.
Teaches the need to respect the rights of others and models this by showing respect toward students.
Capacity to work under pressure.
Can interact proactively to prevent negative interactions between students.
c. Physical Requirements:
Walk and stand for long periods of time.
Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without hearing aids.
Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone.
Operate a telephone/handheld two-way radio.
Stand, walk, bend over, stoop, grasp, reach overhead, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry 0-25 pounds to waist height. (Updated 8/14/17)

Additional Requirements: Current Driver s License DOJ and FBI Background Clearances (at time of hire) TB (tuberculin) clearance (at time of hire) English fluency (spoken and written) is required. Completion of district mandated training (within 30 days of hire) Successfully complete related WorkSteps physical (if applicable, at time of hire)
