Campus Safety Officers play a critical role in protecting the people, places, and experiences that make Interlochen unique. They serve as a visible and trusted presence across our 1,200-acre campus, helping ensure the safety and security of students, employees, guests, and visitors while responding to routine requests, emergencies, and evolving situations with professionalism and sound judgment.
This role combines proactive patrol, emergency preparedness, incident response, and community engagement. Campus Safety Officers conduct vehicle and foot patrols, staff concerts and special events, investigate and document incidents, support emergency preparedness through drills and exercises, and help maintain a safe environment where students and artists can learn, create, and thrive.
Interlochen is hiring both full-time and part-time Campus Safety Officers. Current opportunities are available on afternoon and overnight shifts, with schedules that may include 3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m., or a combination of hours within those timeframes based on operational needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform general vehicle and walking patrol duties.
- Respond to routine, non-emergency requests for service.
- Respond to urgent or emergency situations and calls for service.
- Investigate and document administrative and criminal complaints.
- Lock and unlock facilities as appropriately requested or scheduled.
- Screen guests and visitors to Interlochen consistent with established visitor management policy and protocol.
- Conduct and participate in safety related drills and exercises.
- Monitor and direct traffic and parking during concerts and other special events.
- Conduct and document safety related inspections.
- Monitor and utilize access control, fire alarm, video surveillance, and other safety-related systems.
- Provide safety escorts for students, staff, and guests.
- Deliver safety, security and emergency preparedness related training and presentations to students and staff.
- Seeks the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Complies with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA finances.
- Respects the culture, diversity and rights of all students, their families and the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous law enforcement or security experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA's insurance carrier
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly assess situations, identify actual or potential safety concerns, and determine an appropriate course of action.
- Ability to read, understand, retain, and apply written policies, procedures, and factual information.

Interlochen is proud to provide priority placement at Pitter Patter Preschool & Childcare located in the Interlochen Community Center, near our campus, for employees' dependents. In addition, Interlochen employees may be eligible for the MI Tri-Share Program. This program shares the cost of childcare between the state of Michigan, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and the employee (The employee will only pay 1/3 of the total cost, if eligible).
