POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Cafeteria Manager is primarily accountable for providing food service for the High School campus in a manner that ensures compliance with state and local guidelines, procedures and regulations regarding the commercial preparation and distribution of food and the excellent maintenance of required documentation and vendor files.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that the School complies with state and local regulations regarding the commercial preparation and distribution of food, as well as federal guidelines and regulations concerning the national school lunch program.
  • Conduct regular inspections of cooking equipment, utensils, and storage areas to ensure cleanliness and functionality.
  • Develop menus in accordance with federal dietary standards (USDA).
  • Maintain proper inventory of supplies, equipment and food.
  • Keep the Head of School informed of all necessary information including customer and staff complaints, and other incidents involving the kitchen.
  • Create and monitor cafeteria budget. Comply with purchasing policies and guidelines set by the Business Office.
  • Provide timely financial reports to Business Office and Head of School.
  • Track and provide documentation of meal payment and non-payment. Keep accurate and timely meal payment records. Collect unpaid balances in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with school cafeteria meal charge policy.
  • Must be Serv Safe certified.
  • Complete and document required School Nutrition training hours as a manager and provide the training needed for hourly cafeteria staff.
  • File and keep all School Nutrition documents in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements
  • Attend monthly DDOE school nutrition meetings.
  • Track and document all meal production on a daily production log, ensuring production matches sales for the day.
  • Complete and submit monthly School Nutrition claims to DDOE for reimbursement, ensuring the claims can be backed up with school production logs.
  • Complete and submit required School Nutrition DDOE reports and reapplication documents, as well as DHSS spreadsheets for Summer EBT.
  • Track and keep records of refrigerator, freezer, and dishwasher temperature readings, as well as quat sanitation levels, to ensure they meet the food safety requirements.
  • Promote the availability of the Free & Reduced meal program, process income-based applications and directly certified students for the program, as well as enter information into the school computer software system.
  • Ensure and document Smart Snack compliance for items sold in the student accessible vending machines and help students with any vending machine issues.

GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Share a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of the MOT Charter School.
  • Set high expectations and standards for the food service staff.
  • Support the High School Principal by offering organizational and technical assistance that ensures compliance with all corporate, local, state and federal guidelines and procedures.
  • Support all efforts to provide opportunities for the community to be involved in student and school success.
  • Work cooperatively with other faculty, staff, and administrators to support the school's objectives.
  • Proactively contribute to a positive school climate.
  • Build community by participating in school events.
  • Adhere to all procedures and policies as outlined in the MOT Charter School Employee Manual.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate Degree preferred

  • Experienced cook and manager with at least 3 years experience in a school setting

  • Knowledge of basic nutritional principles and demonstrated ability to plan and serve well balanced meals and snacks

OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook and in the use of a student information system
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools
