Position Summary

As a Buyer/Planner, you will be the hands-on owner of day-to-day material readiness-supporting general planning execution, responding quickly to ad-hoc shortages, and ensuring smooth production flow. This is a generalist role across planning + procurement execution: you'll keep MRP signals clean, coordinate with suppliers, and partner closely with Production, Warehouse, Engineering, and Procurement to keep thermal-battery builds moving. You will report to the Material Planning Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities

General Planning Execution

  • Own daily planning execution to keep builds on track (supply coverage checks, MRP follow-ups, PO status tracking, material readiness reviews).
  • Maintain planning routines and drive timely actions across internal teams and suppliers as priorities shift (schedule changes, high-mix updates, urgent gaps).
  • Support day-to-day NetSuite/MRP execution by maintaining key planning parameters (lead times, safety stock, UoM, cost, part ownership) and resolving planning signal issues.
  • Investigate inaccurate PO suggestions or shortage signals, identify root causes, and implement corrections to prevent recurrence.

Ad-hoc Shortage Response

  • Serve as first responder to material shortages impacting production/testing; drive containment actions and recovery plans.
  • Partner cross-functionally (Production/Warehouse/Engineering) to confirm root cause (system vs. physical vs. supplier) and define immediate workarounds.
  • Provide clear, timely updates on ETAs, recovery actions, and risks; align stakeholders on next steps.
  • Support material readiness improvements, including kitting checks, line-side min/max reviews, and cycle count support as needed.

Procurement & Supplier Performance

  • Place POs to support inventory and equipment requirements for operations.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to understand requirements and communicate design changes to suppliers.
  • Negotiate terms as needed to secure pricing, lead times, and quality commitments.
  • Monitor supplier performance and drive improvements in delivery, quality, and responsiveness.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years in purchasing or material planning.
  • Ability to work onsite 5 days per week.
  • Proven ability to multitask, handle ad-hoc requests, and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Growth-oriented, eager to learn, share knowledge, and iterate on processes.
  • Clear communicator-able to translate data into actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.

Additional Qualifications Desired

  • Hands-on experience with an integrated MRP/ERP system (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Generalist mindset (comfortable owning a broad range of tasks vs. specializing in one area).
  • Experience in a startup or similarly fast-paced environment where work may be new, ambiguous, and evolving.
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or warehouse operations.
  • Experience with AI/BI tools for reporting and analysis (dashboards, trackers, workflow automation).

Work Details

  • Work Location: Onsite - San Jose, CA
  • Salary Range: $80,000 USD - $110,000 USD
  • Salary Basis: Annual
