SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is looking for an experienced and motivated Buy Line Manager to assist our extensive vessel crew with in-season operations in Bristol Bay, AK. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a crew of up to 12 Buy Line personnel, in all weather conditions, tying up gillnet and setnet vessels, and unloading them by crane safely and efficiently. The role may be expanded to include an off-season function in the final processing of Bristol Bay salmon in Bellingham, WA. This is a position aboard a stationary floating processing facility anchored near Dillingham, AK.  

Travel Requirement: As of May 7, 2025, a REAL ID-compliant identification is required for domestic air travel, including flights to Alaska. Candidates must meet this requirement prior to hire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Manage and support the vessel team in the efficient purchasing of fish from fishing vessels
  • Coordinate and train crew members, ensuring the crew is ready and available to serve our fleet
  • Assist in managing the vessel and crew with loading, unloading, and proper stowage/lashing of all cargo on the barge
  • Safely and efficiently operate cranes as needed to run fish buying operations and move cargo
  • Coordinate the tying and untying of fishing and tender vessels as needed to meet production goals
  • Ensure proper and safe line handling
  • Splice lines and make slings as needed
  • Provide maintenance, repair, and basic troubleshooting of fish buying activities
  • Maintain vessel gear and storage areas in a clean, organized, and safe.
  • Ensure the crew operates efficiently and safely, emphasizing a zero-accident mentality
  • Ensure all fish purchases are recorded correctly and that office personnel receive paperwork in a timely manner
  • Complete all safety training and documentation as required by local, state, and federal regulations, with emphasis on Coast Guard requirements
  • Complete all other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 18+ years old
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a crew member with emphasis on management, boat tie-ups, fish purchasing, and crane operation
  • Crane and forklift experience is required
  • Must be able to routinely work 12+ hour shifts and occasionally 16+ hour shifts during peak season

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, crane operations
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for safely moving various types of cargo aboard a stationary floating processing facility
  • Knowledge of Bristol Bay operations and servicing a large fleet of tenders and fishing boats
  • Knowledge of proper use of emergency equipment located on the barge
  • Ability to solve problems and make clear, rational decisions in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team with up to 24 crew member and assistants
  • Ability to complete duties with minimal supervision
  • Positive, can-do attitude

This job operates primarily on a barge docked in Bristol Bay and at the dock in Bellingham, WA. This role routinely uses equipment common in transferring and moving cargo including cranes, lines, slings, spreader bars, etc. Additionally, this position will require advanced knowledge of fish pump setup and maintenance. Employee must be able to stand, walk and generally navigate a wet and cold barge environment for long periods of time. Employee must be able to navigate tight spaces and climb multiple flights of stairs without assistance. Ability to lift 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.  This is a position aboard a stationary floating processing facility anchored near Dillingham, AK. Employees should be prepared to work in a variety of weather conditions.
