Business Unit Controller
LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a private equity-backed, growth-oriented industrial organization to identify a Business Unit Controller. This is a highly visible leadership role supporting a mid-sized business unit within a larger, scaling platform. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on finance leader who enjoys partnering with operations, influencing decision-making, and driving performance through data and process improvements. The role offers strong executive exposure, the ability to shape financial strategy, clear upside in a fast-paced environment and a very flexible work schedule.
Primary responsibilities of the Business Unit Controller role include:
- Lead all accounting and finance activities for a business unit, including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
- Partner closely with operations leadership to drive cost optimization, margin improvement, and KPI tracking
- Deliver insights on financial performance and key business drivers to support executive decision-making
- Oversee cost accounting, inventory, and manufacturing finance processes, including variance analysis and standard costing
- Build and enhance scalable reporting, forecasting, and planning tools
- Ensure strong internal controls, compliance, and integrity of financial data
- Evaluate strategic initiatives including capital investments and operational improvements
- Manage and mentor finance staff while supporting cross-functional collaboration
Primary qualifications include:
- 8-12+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including leadership responsibility
- Background in FP&A, cost accounting, or operations finance within manufacturing or a similar environment preferred
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, forecasting, and business analytics
- Experience partnering with operations and influencing non-finance stakeholders
- Proven ability to identify process improvements and drive change in a fast-paced setting
- Hands-on leader with confidence, ownership mentality, and strong business acumen
- ERP experience and advanced Excel skills required; exposure to mid-market systems a plus
- CPA, MBA, or similar credentials preferred
