Business Systems Analyst
Department: IT Business Systems (spanning Support & Services and Business Systems) | Reports To: Director of Business Systems | Status: Exempt, Full-Time
The IT Business Systems team is looking for a versatile Business Systems Analyst (BSA) who can move fluidly between managing project delivery, translating business needs into technical requirements, and rolling up their sleeves on hands-on development work. This role sits within IT Business Systems but spans both the Business Systems and Support & Services teams and is a hybrid role for someone who doesn't fit neatly into a single lane — equally comfortable running a project plan, sitting in a requirements workshop with business stakeholders, and writing or reviewing code.
This role is central to our upcoming ERX (Enterprise Resource Execution) project, which requires all three disciplines — structured project management, business systems analysis, and applied development — working in concert. The ideal candidate has broad, cross-industry IT experience and thrives in ambiguity, bringing order and technical depth to complex, cross-functional initiatives.
• Plan, schedule, and manage projects spanning both the Business Systems and Support & Services IT teams, including the ERX project, from initiation through closeout.
• Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, budgets, resource allocations, and risk/issue logs.
• Run regular status meetings, steering committee updates, and stakeholder communications.
• Identify project risks and dependencies early, and drive mitigation plans to keep initiatives on schedule and on budget.
• Coordinate across Business Systems and Support & Services IT sub-teams (infrastructure, applications, development) to remove blockers and align priorities.
• Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the IT team, translating business needs into clear, actionable requirements.
• Facilitate requirements-gathering sessions, workshops, and interviews with business users and subject-matter experts.
• Document current-state and future-state business processes, workflows, and system integrations.
• Write functional and technical specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria for development teams.
• Support user acceptance testing (UAT), training, and change management activities tied to new systems and processes.
• Contribute hands-on to development efforts on the ERX project and related initiatives — this may include scripting, configuration, integrations, database queries, or light application development depending on project needs.
• Partner with developers and architects to validate that technical solutions meet business requirements.
• Troubleshoot and support system issues that arise during and after implementation.
• Review code, configurations, or technical designs at a working level sufficient to ask informed questions and catch gaps early.
• Support API and data integration work (e.g., REST/JSON) and database/data modeling tasks (e.g., SQL Server) tied to system connectivity and reporting needs.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in a combination of project management and business systems analysis roles within IT.
• Demonstrated experience managing IT projects from initiation through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, and stakeholder management.
• Proven ability to act as a liaison between business and technical teams, translating business needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
• Working technical proficiency — comfortable with SQL, scripting, or light application development, even if not a full-time developer.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to flex communication style between executive stakeholders and technical staff.
• Experience with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, JIRA, Primavera P6, Smartsheet) and requirements/documentation tools.
• Broad, cross-industry IT experience (e.g., healthcare, transportation, financial services, or similarly regulated or data-intensive environments), reflecting adaptability across varied business contexts.
• Experience in warehouse, distribution, or supply chain/logistics operations (e.g., inventory control, fleet or dispatch operations, multi-location system rollouts) is a plus.
• Experience deploying or supporting enterprise systems across multiple locations with minimal disruption to operations.
• Experience establishing or maturing PMO practices, standards, or governance frameworks.
• Consulting or client-facing background, with experience managing multiple concurrent initiatives and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with ERP/ERX systems, given the nature of the ERX project.
• PMP certification strongly preferred; CBAP, Master Logistician, or similar credential is a plus.
• Experience with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery methodologies, applied pragmatically based on project needs.
Within the first 90 days, this person will have embedded themselves with both the Business Systems and Support & Services IT teams and key business stakeholders, gained a working understanding of the ERX project scope, and begun actively managing at least one workstream — while identifying where their development skills can accelerate delivery.
