About the Position

The Business Services Assistant Director is a second-level supervisory accounting and business operations position responsible for supporting the financial management, payroll, time management, reporting, and administrative functions of East Mississippi State Hospital's Business Services Division. Functioning within the Accounting Supervisor classification, this position oversees professional-level accounting and time management staff, helps formulate fiscal policies and operating procedures in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements, and supports the preparation and administration of departmental budgets in coordination with leadership. The Business Services Assistant Director also serves as a key operational resource for payroll oversight, time management, financial reporting, key performance indicator analysis, and business support services, while helping resolve complex financial and operational questions presented by leadership, employees, outside entities, and business partners.

To be successful in this position, the employee must demonstrate strong financial knowledge, supervisory ability, and the capacity to oversee payroll, time management, and accounting operations in a complex healthcare environment. The employee should be able to analyze financial data, support budget planning, prepare meaningful reports, supervise staff effectively, and ensure business processes are accurate, timely, and compliant. Success in this role also requires sound judgment, professionalism, strong communication, accountability, and a commitment to operational efficiency and financial integrity. Advanced proficiency in MAGIC, Kronos, Excel, and other financial reporting systems is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 6-7 years of experience. - Agency Preferred Qualifications: Experience in accounting, payroll, time management, budget preparation, financial reporting, performance metric analysis, and staff supervision is preferred. Experience in healthcare, government, or public sector financial operations is also preferred.
