Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
The Advancement Division engages alumni, friends, parents, students, community leaders, businesses, corporations and foundations to seek their philanthropic support of the university and its priorities. The Advancement Division builds relationships with each of these constituencies, provides ongoing stewardship of these relationships as well as prudent fiscal management of the contributions placed in its care.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Business Operations Manager provides professional business and financial support for the Division of Advancement and the UNC Pembroke Foundation by administering and coordinating budget, financial reporting, reconciliation, procurement, and compliance functions across State and Foundation resources. This position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timely completion of financial processes and required regulatory reporting associated with philanthropic funds, operational budgets, capital initiatives, and foundation activities.
The position serves as the primary business resource for Advancement, coordinating with Finance, Procurement, Internal Audit, and Foundation partners to support sound fiscal practices, compliance with university, Foundation, State, and federal requirements, and continuous improvement of business processes that support the division's fundraising, stewardship, and operational objectives.
Job Description
The Business Operations Manager provides professional business and financial support for the Division of Advancement and the UNC Pembroke Foundation by administering and coordinating budget management, financial reporting, reconciliation, procurement, and compliance functions across State and Foundation resources. This position supports sound fiscal management, accurate financial reporting, and efficient business operations that enable the division to advance its fundraising, stewardship, and foundation administration priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
Management Preference
Experience working in higher education, advancement, foundation administration, or nonprofit organizations.
Knowledge of financial management, budgeting, reconciliation, procurement, and compliance reporting.
Experience supporting audits, IRS Form 990 preparation, charitable solicitation renewals, or related regulatory reporting.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and enterprise financial or reporting systems, such as Banner, Raiser's Edge, or similar platforms.
Lic or Certification required by statute or regulation
