QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university
  • Three years in a full-charge accounting capacity with school accounting and reporting experience
  • Experience with budget production and control.
  • Ability to support staff with Student Information System (SIS) requests.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for supporting the Finance Director with budget development, administration, and long-range financial planning for the District.
  • Responsible for the financial oversight of the food service operations.
  • Serves as liaison between the district and PowerSchool, including collaboration with Southwest MiTech at KRESA.
  • Participates with county and state organizations in staying abreast of school finance and operations-related issues.
  • Prepares documents and information related to school millage elections, bonding, and other financial issues.
  • Prepares and oversees the preparation of District financial reports. Ensures that report formats meet all State, local, and in-District reporting requirements.
  • Prepares external reports to federal, state, and regional governmental entities. Such reports can include the SE-4094 transportation cost report, SE-4096 Special Education Cost Report, and FID (Financial Information Database), consolidated grant final expenditure report, and many more.
  • Assist with the preparation of all necessary schedules and journal entries for the annual audit.
  • Provides support for the annual audit to ensure a timely review of all documents and assists with the preparation of the annual financial report.
  • Assists with the accounting of various District funds such as student activities, athletics, food service, sinking funds, debt funds, etc.
  • Prepares and analyzes financial information for administrative-level decision-making.
  • Supports the management of the district budget, monitoring line items, and reporting on significant variances.
  • Provides proper internal control and accounting procedures.
  • Responsible for opening all necessary district bank accounts and maintaining a detailed cash flow for making transfers between accounts as necessary.
  • Prepares the monthly reconciliation for the general fund and investment accounts.
  • Enters the budget on the financial accounting software and make transfers between accounts when necessary.
  • Works with all district grant-related funds, preparing budgets, creating accounts, etc., by requesting grant funds and submitting final expenditure reports when required.
  • Schedules all District bond payments twice a year.
  • Prepares bank deposits and travels to the bank.
  • Submits the ACH payroll batch to the bank biweekly for payroll.
  • Makes investments with District funds.
  • Prepares a monthly Board Packet of accounts payable-related information for the Board of Education.
  • Handles installment purchase agreements.
  • Assists in the preparation of the Board resolution, solicits bids, and works with legal counsel to schedule the loan closing.
  • Completes assignments as instructed by the Superintendent.
  • Implements policy and procedure changes from the Board, or State and Federal level, at the department level.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
