JOB SUMMARY:
Using knowledge, education, and experience, the Business Education Teacher will develop students' understanding of the American business system and its place in the nation's economy, provide knowledge needed for the intelligent consumption of business services, develop students' practical business skills for personal use or for use in business occupations, and encourages students to develop work and personal habits essential for success in business.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches knowledge and skills in one or more of the following subjects to secondary students: keyboarding, note-taking, bookkeeping, record keeping, office procedures, merchandising, business communications, data processing, or basic business.
- Demonstrates skills in the use of office machines and techniques such as those used in merchandising. Prepares appropriate instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning.
- Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
- Utilizes and teaches technology appropriate for modern business practices.
- Instructs students in importance to employers of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits.
- Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes so that demonstration, instruction, and practice can be completed within the allotted time.
- Evaluates and selects books, equipment, and instructional aids and supplies and maintains required inventory.
- Participates in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Attends staff meetings as well as serves on staff and district committees as requested.
- Participates in various meetings (e.g., parent conferences, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
- Works cooperatively with Special Education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities/areas as assigned.
- Uses data to make informed decisions about students regarding behavior and academics.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records including attendance reports, and other records, as necessary.
- Collaborates with other department staff to develop lesson plans, teaching strategies and interventions.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and that is appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Interacts in a positive, constructive manner with students, families, teaching assistants and other professionals.
- Models the district vision and demonstrates a willingness to become an active contributor to the school culture and our continual school improvement process.
- Demonstrates knowledge around state standards, PBIS, restorative practices, technology to support students, and professionalism.
- Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, other professional activities as required by the district, and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the WI Educator Standards, district teaching expectations and delivery of the WI content standards for Business and federal or state laws pertaining to students.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid License in Marketing Education or Business Education from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
- Bachelor's Degree in Education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid License in Marketing Education and Business Education from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
- Experience working as a Business/Marketing Education Teacher in a Middle School or High School setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Capable on a continuous basis of standing, sitting, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, twisting; repetitive movement of both hands and feet; seeing with both near and far visual acuity and to hear.
Capable on a frequent basis of walking and moving, climbing stairs, lifting from floor to waist (up to #50), waist to shoulders (up to #25).
Capable on an occasional basis of pushing; pulling; lifting from shoulders to overhead (up to #10).
