Overview

A leading global law firm is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to support a portfolio of high-profile transactional practice groups. This strategic role partners closely with practice leaders and attorneys to develop and execute business development initiatives that drive client growth, strengthen market visibility, and support revenue-generating opportunities. The successful candidate will collaborate across marketing, communications, events, and business intelligence teams while serving as a trusted advisor to attorneys on business development strategy, client engagement, and market positioning.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with practice group leadership to develop and implement strategic business development plans that support transactional practice growth.
  • Identify market trends, client opportunities, and cross-selling initiatives across practices and industry sectors.
  • Lead the development of compelling pitches, proposals, and RFP responses tailored to prospective and existing clients.
  • Advise attorneys on business development best practices and support preparation for client meetings, presentations, and networking opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain business plans for attorneys and practice groups to support long-term growth objectives.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of marketing collateral, practice descriptions, experience materials, and other client-facing content.
  • Manage transactional practice experience databases and league table submissions.
  • Coordinate webinars, client events, sponsorships, conferences, speaking engagements, and other thought leadership initiatives.
  • Lead legal directory and award submissions, including strategy, content development, and rankings management.
  • Collaborate with communications and media relations teams to promote significant matters, attorney accomplishments, and market recognition.
  • Support the successful integration of lateral partners through strategic client planning and targeted business development initiatives.
  • Develop and manage practice group budgets while tracking the effectiveness and return on investment of business development activities.
  • Utilize CRM systems and marketing analytics to support client targeting, relationship management, and strategic decision-making.
  • Supervise and mentor business development team members while fostering collaboration and operational excellence.
  • Provide cross-functional support to additional practice groups and firmwide initiatives as needed.
Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of business development and marketing experience, preferably within a law firm, professional services, financial services, or investment banking environment.
  • Experience supporting transactional practice areas such as corporate, finance, restructuring, tax, private wealth, project finance, or related disciplines strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of business development strategy within professional services organizations.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex pitches, proposals, RFP responses, and client development initiatives.
  • Experience managing legal directory submissions, thought leadership campaigns, and client events.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with partners, senior leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing team members.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, budgeting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using CRM platforms and marketing or experience management databases.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment with a client-service mindset.
