Job Summary This position is eligible for up to a $2000 annual stipend divided into monthly payments if currently hold the Bus Driver Specialty certification.

Job Description Essential Elements Print OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  1. Transports students safely to and from school, escorting them as needed across streets, etc.
  2. Records and logs information regarding transportation activities.
  3. Does routine stated District bus safety check outs. Reports needed repairs.
  4. Follows and may assist in planning routine and/or special bus routes.
  5. Maintains order and enforces rules on bus, completes accident and discipline reports.
  6. Confers with parents as needed.
  7. Performs minor maintenance service as required.
  8. Maintains bus in clean condition inside and out as required.
  9. Does related work as required.

QUALIFICATION Knowledge of:

  • Laws, rules, and regulations regarding operation of a school bus
  • Safety and maintenance requirements
  • Vehicle components, safety driving skills, student discipline techniques

Ability to:

  • Maintain order and self-control
  • Maintain required records
  • Communicate effectively and maintain cooperative relationships with a wide variety of personalities contacted in the course of work
  • Understand, implement, and give oral and written directions in English

Experience Minimum requirement: Successful work experience driving a school bus or equivalent vehicle.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

License:

  • Valid Class A or B California Drivers License
  • Appropriate certificates: Bus Operators Certificate

Supervision Under general supervision, reports to Director of Transportation. Receives technical assistance from the Bus Driver Trainer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
