Primary PurposeEnsure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operates a school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated location.QualificationsEducationCertificationValid Texas commercial driver&rsquos license with Passenger P and School Bus S endorsements.Special KnowledgeSkillsMust be 18 years of ageAbility to complete required bus driver safety trainingAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to manage student behaviorAbility to pass alcohol and drug testAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsKnowledge of student discipline procedureAbility to operate busExperience None required.Essential Job FunctionsFollow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs.Report all accidents vehicle damage student injuries and mechanical failures. Complete required reports.Keep records on bus mileage gas and oil consumption and number of passengers transported.Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street.Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on bus.Maintain discipline report student discipline problems to appropriate administrators.Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.Inspect bus by checking fuel oil water tires lights brakes and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving.Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment such as first aid kit fire extinguisher flags fuses crow bar and reflector.Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform the supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.Install snow chains during inclement weather.Report any hazardous conditions along the route.Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office.Work irregular hours as needed.Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification.Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.Professional ConductMaintain professional interactions with staff parents community and visitors.Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressures.Demonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situations.Demonstrates respect courteous to peers and visitors and assists fellow workers willingly.Demonstrates principles of the Manor ISD People Experience.Supervisory Responsibilities NoneEquipment UsedSchool bus safety equipment flares reflective signs fire extinguisher and personal computerWorking ConditionsThe working conditions described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
