Position Description

Safely operate a passenger vehicle while providing excellent customer service. Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of transit vehicle. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections. Report on vehicle maintenance issues. Provide passenger assistance within established guidelines.

Successful applicants must be at least 20 years old, insurable by the County's insurance carrier, pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug test and physical.

Essential Job Functions

  • Safely operate a multi-passenger vehicle.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Provide passengers with excellent customer service.
  • Perform and document mandatory vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Maintain vehicle in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Efficiently operate a smart phone or electronic tablet.
  • Efficiently operate shared-ride and vehicle maintenance tracking mobile applications on electronic device.
  • Accurately follow global positioning system (GPS).
  • Properly load and secure wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
  • Report vehicle maintenance, safety hazards, and passenger incidents.
  • Assist in emergency evacuations as needed.
  • Adhere to daily schedule.
  • Provide general information to passengers about transportation services.

Education and Experience

  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement or obtain CDL with passenger endorsement within the 6-month probationary period.
  • This position requires driving as an essential function of the position. Successful applicants must be insurable by the County's insurance carrier, pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check.
  • Pre-employment drug screening, random drug and alcohol screenings, and post-accident drug and alcohol screenings are required.

Physical Qualifications

  • Ability to assist passengers as required, lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted, and secure passengers and mobility devices.
  • Must have 20/40 vision or better with corrected lenses.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of traffic regulations.
  • Defensive driving skills.
  • Skills to communicate information to supervisors, co-workers, and passengers in a professional, courteous, and polite manner.
  • Ability to operate mobile devices, applications, and GPS units after adequate training.
  • Ability to enter required information in mobile device.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
