Job Goal:
Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other
authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.
Qualifications:
\u25cf High School Diploma
\u25cf Five years' experience (Preferred)
Requirements
\u25cf Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
\u25cf Clear driving record
\u25cf In good standing with the Department of Transportation
\u25cf Annual physical exam
\u25cf Unannounced alcohol and drug tests
Skills and Mindset Requirements:
\u25cf Bilingual in English/Spanish-able to speak, read and write in both languages (preferred)
\u25cf Drive the bus daily following the assigned route and adhering to established schedules.
\u25cf Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
\u25cf Perform pre-and post-trip inspections according to specifications to ensure the bus can be operated safely
and notify the supervisor or maintenance of needed repairs. Keep the assigned bus clean and maintain the
appropriate level of fuel.
\u25cf Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries and mechanical problems and complete required
corresponding reports.
\u25cf Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions and schedule changes and make necessary
adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays.
\u25cf Assist in the preventive maintenance of the bus. Student Management
\u25cf Instruct students on safe entering, exiting and passenger rules and regulations. Supervise students while
they board and leave the bus and cross the street.
\u25cf Perform emergency evacuation of students on the bus when the situation warrants.
\u25cf Maintain discipline and use effective behavior management control over groups of students. Report student
discipline problems to appropriate administrators and communicate with teachers and parents regarding
student's behavior when warranted. Page 2 of 2 Safety
\u25cf Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses and use effective defensive driving
techniques.
\u25cf Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
\u25cf Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses and
reflector triangles.
\u25cf Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform the supervisor of any
conditions that are not correctable immediately.
\u25cf Maintain valid Texas School Bus Certification. Other
\u25cf Attend and successfully complete all required training to maintain safety certification.
\u25cf Keep records on bus mileage, seat assignment and number of passengers transported.
\u25cf Maintain emotional control under stress.
\u25cf Other duties assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Operate school bus, two-way radio, Global Positioning System (GPS), student accountability software, safety
equipment including but not limited to reflective signs and fire extinguisher. Posture: Continual sitting, bending,
stooping, stretching, twisting, turning, pulling (approximately 20 lbs.). Motion: Reaching, climbing, repetitive hand/arm
motions, and walking. Lifting: Lifting (approximately 50 pounds for 5 feet) and carrying. Environment: Work outside
and inside, possibility of extended hours, moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, intermittent noise, and
exhaust fumes.

The hours are 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., however, from time to time may work an extended
schedule, including weekends and evenings according to demands of the role and tasks. In accordance with
