HOURS: Monday - Friday; 7am - 3pm; overtime/on-call required occasionally
JOB SUMMARY:
Employees in this class are under general supervision and may be assigned to any division of the Leisure Services/Public Facilities Department. Work performed in executing maintenance and custodial tasks of a skilled and unskilled nature in maintaining city buildings and grounds.
Examples of work performed: periodically checks buildings and grounds for maintenance needs, diagnoses problems and advises the supervisor; installs or repairs electrical outlets, lighting fixtures, timers and a variety of other electrical equipment; installs and repairs various types of plumbing fixtures; performs a variety of carpentry tasks in the maintenance of buildings and other facilities; assists with heating and air-conditioning maintenance; performs grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing and landscaping; performs general custodial and building cleaning daily and as needed; moves furniture and equipment; may set-up stage sets and unload materials; assists with departmental special events; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic custodial procedures
Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks
Knowledge of tools and equipment related to job
Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
Ability to use the tools necessary to perform the required skills
Ability to work irregular schedule, including nights and weekends
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school education or equivalent and a valid TN driver's license are required. Experience in general construction, maintenance, or custodial work is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical:
Employee will be required to use power equipment such as saws, drills, mowers, etc. Ability to navigate and climb ladders and manipulate hand tools are also required. Must be able to use general construction tools and equipment. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Environmental:
Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and may involve regular exposure to all outdoor weather conditions while performing grounds maintenance and exterior facility work. Employees may be frequently exposed to dust, dirt, pollen, grass, cleaning chemicals, solvents, and other custodial and maintenance related substances. The position involves exposure to loud noise levels from power tools, lawn equipment and other mechanical equipment.
