    Minimum Qualifications

    Possess two years of field experience in the HVHZ. Completing an eight-hour HVHZ training course approved by the BORA may substitute for the required HVHZ experience. Plus, meet one of the following requirements: (1) Five years of construction experience in a supervisory capacity AND either a. Current GC license issued by Florida CILB, OR b. Current GC license and a current Certificate of Competency issued by the MDC CTQB; OR (2) Two years of construction experience and a. Associate of Science Degree in Building Code Enforcement OR b. Construction-related curriculum awarded for completion of an educational course accepted by BORA & a current GC license issued by the Florida CILB, OR c. Current GC Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Eligibility issued by the MDC CTQB; OR (3) A current registration from the State of Florida as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer and building construction experience; OR (4) Five years of experience in the construction industry and certification as a Building Inspector (Commercial Roofing) in MDC & holding a current Certificate of Competency or a Certificate of Eligibility from the MDC CTQB or the Florida CILB as a General Contractor.     Recruitment Notes

    This is technical work involving the structural inspection of buildings to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code.

    Incumbents in this class are responsible for conducting technical field inspections for all building permit categories of new and existing structures to ensure compliance with code requirements.

    Responsibilities include inspecting construction in progress and upon completion; advising contractors on necessary changes; conducting routine and periodic patrols to detect violations; issuing violation notices; investigating complaints of defective installations; and signing permits granting final County approval for completed work.

    Related office duties include providing information to contractors and the public and resolving disagreements. Supervision is received from a technical supervisor who reviews work for conformance with established departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

    All applicants must be eligible for certification by the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals as specified in Chapter 8 of the Code of Miami-Dade County. Certificate and/or license must be in good standing with Miami-Dade Countys Contractor Licensing and Enforcement Section, and/or the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and/or Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board with no pending complaints. Applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to extensive background screening. Applicants holding an active certificate will be required to inactivate their certificate at their own expense upon employment.
