Location: Kittanning, PA / Armstrong County and surrounding Western Pennsylvania communities

Job Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: Field-based with home office

A WORLD LEADER IN TESTING, INSPECTION & CERTIFICATION SERVICES

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Building Inspector to support municipal clients in the Kittanning, Pennsylvania and surrounding Western Pennsylvania region.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being out in the field, working independently, solving practical construction-related questions, and supporting local communities. This role supports residential and light commercial construction inspections, permit-related work, and code compliance services for contracted municipalities.

We are especially interested in candidates who already hold ICC certifications or related inspection credentials. However, we also welcome candidates with strong backgrounds in construction, inspections, contracting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, construction supervision, municipal work, or the trades who are interested in building a long-term career in code inspection.

You do not need to check every box to be considered. If you understand job sites, communicate well with contractors and municipal clients, care about safe construction, and are willing to keep learning, we encourage you to apply.

About the Role

As a Building Inspector, you will work from a home office and spend much of your time in the field supporting municipalities, contractors, property owners, and project teams.

You will perform inspections on permitted construction projects and help ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with applicable codes, approved plans, and local requirements. Depending on experience, certifications, and client needs, this position may also support Building Code Official responsibilities for contracted municipalities.

This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys variety, independence, technical problem-solving, and respectful communication with people in the field. In communities around Kittanning and Western PA, relationships matter. The right person will be professional, reliable, practical, and comfortable working with contractors, homeowners, municipal staff, and local officials.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities may include:

  • Perform residential and light commercial building inspections for permitted projects
  • Inspect structural and non-structural components, which may include building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, accessibility, energy, fire protection, and related systems
  • Review work for compliance with approved plans, specifications, PA UCC requirements, ICC codes, and applicable local regulations
  • Document inspection findings clearly, accurately, and on time
  • Communicate inspection results to contractors, property owners, municipal staff, and Bureau Veritas team members
  • Identify code-related issues and explain required corrections in a professional, practical way
  • Support permit issuance, inspection approvals, certificates of occupancy, and related documentation
  • Maintain clear and complete inspection records and reports
  • Coordinate with municipal clients, builders, design professionals, and internal staff
  • Provide reliable field support across assigned communities in the Kittanning / Western PA region
  • Serve as a trusted resource who helps projects move forward safely, consistently, and professionally

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Experience in construction, inspections, contracting, code compliance, building systems, construction supervision, municipal work, or the skilled trades
  • Ability to read or learn to read construction documents, plans, specifications, permits, and inspection reports
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly and respectfully
  • Good judgment, attention to detail, and follow-through
  • Comfort using basic computer tools such as email, Microsoft Word, Excel, digital forms, or inspection software
  • Ability to work independently in the field while staying connected with clients, municipalities, and team members

Helpful, But Not Required

The following experience or credentials are helpful, but you do not need to have all of them to apply:

  • ICC certifications, such as Combination Building Inspector or related residential/commercial inspection certifications
  • Prior experience performing residential, commercial, or multi-code inspections
  • Working knowledge of PA UCC, ICC codes, local codes, or municipal inspection processes
  • Experience with new residential construction, light commercial construction, renovations, additions, or adaptive reuse projects
  • Experience as a Building Code Official, inspector, plans examiner, construction manager, superintendent, contractor, journeyperson, or trades professional
  • Familiarity with plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, accessibility, or energy code requirements
  • Experience supporting boroughs, townships, counties, or other local government clients
  • Bilingual communication skills, including Spanish, are a plus

Bureau Veritas is willing to consider candidates who bring strong hands-on construction or inspection experience and are interested in obtaining additional certifications after hire. Additional certifications may also create opportunities for pay growth and advancement.

You May Be a Strong Match If You:

  • have spent time on job sites and understand how construction comes together
  • enjoy being outside and working in the field
  • like a role where every day is a little different
  • can communicate respectfully with contractors, homeowners, municipal staff, and coworkers
  • are comfortable making decisions and documenting your work
  • care about safety, quality, consistency, and public service
  • are curious, practical, and willing to keep learning
  • want to turn your construction or trades background into a stable inspection career

If you have been a contractor, superintendent, carpenter, electrician, plumber, HVAC technician, municipal employee, code enforcement officer, inspector, construction professional, or skilled tradesperson, your experience may transfer well into this role.

Why Bureau Veritas?

At Bureau Veritas, our work helps communities grow safely and responsibly. We support municipalities, contractors, property owners, and residents by providing trusted inspection, code compliance, permitting, and building safety services.

In this role, your work will have a visible local impact. You will help ensure buildings are safer, projects are documented correctly, and municipalities have the support they need to serve their communities.

At Bureau Veritas, you'll find:

  • meaningful field-based work
  • support from an experienced team
  • opportunities to grow your inspection and code knowledge
