Job Description

League Citys Building Inspectors help our community safely grow by conducting inspections of new and remodeled residential and/or commercial buildings to ensure compliance with City building codes, ordinances and inspection processes. They coordinate these inspections with contractors and advise citizens and contractors of building procedures and city policies. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.

Job Functions

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Performs residential and light commercial building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing inspections to ensure that new construction, alterations, and repairs comply with building codes, ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications.
  • Monitors the status of construction inspection activities and keeps track of permits issued.
  • Notifies the construction contractor, superintendent, or supervisor when violations of building codes or ordinances are identified.
  • Investigates new construction or alterations being done without proper permits and issue "stop work orders".
  • Performs all other work as assigned.
  • Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League Citys citizens, and must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.

Any combination of experience, certification and education which provide the applicant with the level of required knowledge and abilities will be considered.

BUILDING INSPECTOR I

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Preferred:

One year experience as a building inspector

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid Class "C" Texas drivers license

BUILDING INSPECTOR II

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Preferred:

Three years experience as a building inspector

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid Class "C" Texas drivers license
  • Must possess 3 current ICC Certifications: Residential Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical

BUILDING INSPECTOR III

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Preferred:

Five years experience as a building inspector

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid Class "C" Texas drivers license
  • Must possess current State of Texas Plumbing Inspector License
  • Must possess all 3 current Residential ICC Certifications
  • Must possess at least 3 Commercial ICC Certifications in Building, Mechanical and Electrical
