Building / General Construction Technician – $30/hr

Location: Hicksville, NY
Job Type: 3-Month Contract
Pay Rate: $30/hour on W2
Work Location: Onsite – Manufacturing Facility

Schedule

3 days per week:

  • Friday: 12:00 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Sunday: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Hours are subject to business needs and may increase. Overtime or emergency work may occasionally be required.

Job Summary

Sigma Inc. is seeking an experienced Building / General Construction Technician to support construction, repair, renovation, and facility maintenance activities at a manufacturing facility in Hicksville, NY.

This is a hands-on position ideal for someone with experience in general construction, carpentry, drywall, flooring, painting, building maintenance, facility repair, or general trades. The technician will help maintain a safe, efficient, and compliant facility while supporting building repairs, improvement projects, and GMP/CAPA-related action items.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general construction work, including carpentry, drywall, flooring, painting, and minor structural repairs.
  • Perform routine building maintenance and corrective repairs.
  • Install, repair, and maintain doors, walls, ceilings, fixtures, and other building components.
  • Assist with facility renovation and improvement projects.
  • Troubleshoot building and facility-related problems and provide timely solutions.
  • Read and interpret basic construction drawings, layouts, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Support the timely completion of GMP and CAPA action items, as applicable.
  • Perform work according to company standards, OSHA safety requirements, GMP requirements, and facility procedures.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams, engineering personnel, and outside contractors as needed.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and general construction equipment.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Document completed work and report issues requiring additional attention or follow-up.
  • Perform other facility maintenance and construction duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • 2–5 years of experience in general construction, building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related trade.
  • Hands-on experience with general construction and repair work.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Strong understanding of workplace and construction safety practices.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to perform quality work with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize work.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work the required Friday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • English/Spanish bilingual communication skills.
  • Technical, vocational, construction, or trade certification.
  • Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing facility.
  • Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, layouts, and technical specifications.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

This is a hands-on position within an industrial/manufacturing environment. Candidates must be comfortable with:

  • Climbing, bending, reaching, and performing other physical construction activities.
  • Working around manufacturing equipment and industrial operations.
  • Working in varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Working in confined spaces when required.
  • Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Following all company safety policies and procedures.
