Minimum Qualifications

Possess two years of field experience in the HVHZ. Completing an eight-hour HVHZ training course approved by the BORA may substitute for the required HVHZ experience. Plus, meet one of the following requirements: (1) Five years of construction experience in a supervisory capacity AND either a. Current GC license issued by Florida CILB, OR b. Current GC license and a current Certificate of Competency issued by the MDC CTQB; OR (2) Two years of construction experience and a. Associate of Science Degree in Building Code Enforcement OR b. Construction-related curriculum awarded for completion of an educational course accepted by BORA & a current GC license issued by the Florida CILB, OR c. Current GC Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Eligibility issued by the MDC CTQB; OR (3) A current registration from the State of Florida as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer and building construction experience; OR (4) Five years of experience in the construction industry and certification as a Building Inspector (Commercial Roofing) in MDC & holding a current Certificate of Competency or a Certificate of Eligibility from the MDC CTQB or the Florida CILB as a General Contractor. Must possess a Drivers License.

Recruitment Notes

The Building Field Unit Supervisor will be responsible for supervising subordinate employees engaged in the Building Inspections Section. Supervision is exercised over staff through the assignment and review of work, and through assistance to the public in interpreting the code and resolving customer service issues. This is technical work in structural inspection of building construction to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code.

Incumbents in this class are responsible for ensuring their staff conduct technical field inspections of new and existing building construction installations to ensure that establishments meet code requirements and assist with field inspections as needed. Responsibilities include conducting Employee Performance Evaluations, distributing daily inspections, and processing and assigning Overtime Inspection Requests. Additional responsibilities include reviewing and processing all Request for Permit Cancellation Forms and Expired Permit Check, inspecting construction in progress and upon completion, advising contractors on necessary changes, engaging in routine and signing permits granting final County approval for completed work.

Additionally, Incumbents in this position provide information to contractors and the public, supervise the building inspectors, and ensure routes are created efficiently, perform inspections and verify that construction jobs comply with the Florida Building Code and ride along with inspectors to evaluate their job performance. Supervision is received from a Building Section Supervisor, who reviews work for conformance with established departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
