Job Description and Functions
The Building and Grounds Specialist performs advanced irrigation and water management duties while supporting the maintenance, repair, and overall operation of state facilities and grounds. This position plays a vital role in ensuring efficient water usage, maintaining safe and functional building systems, and preserving the appearance, safety, and integrity of public properties throughout the year.
Responsibilities include:
• Technical expertise, independent judgment, and a strong commitment to preventative maintenance and operational excellence in both indoor and outdoor environments. • Performing specialized duties for irrigation systems/water management and weed and pest management programs. • Operating, repairing, adjusting, and installing a variety of complex equipment. • Performing preventive maintenance on building facilities and grounds and assisting other trades assistants and contractors on projects as required. • Receiving, maintaining, and conducting an inventory of building and grounds supplies, assisting with establishing the bi-annual budget, and purchasing supplies needed. • Performing calibration and mixing of various chemicals. • Monitoring water use, water budget, and schedule. • Assisting with the training of new employees in specialized and routine daily duties. • Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools. • Maintaining landscaping in summer involves grass mowing, trimming, and maintaining trees, shrubs, and flowers. • Snow removal in the winter months. • Moving furniture and set-ups for functions and events. • Providing recycling services to all State-owned and leased buildings. • Required to work during a snow event when State offices are closed.
