The Building and Grounds Operations Manager is responsible for the administrative, financial, and daily operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds of the State Fairgrounds during annual State Fair and non-fair times to ensure facilities and services meet the needs of building occupants and fairground visitors in an efficient, economical and safe fashion. This position is responsible for:
The Building and Grounds Operations Manager requires exceptional people skills as there is daily interaction working with permanent and seasonal staff, inmates, event planners, and the general public.
This position works in a multitude of settings to include typical offices, shop environments, and a wide variety of construction and maintenance sites throughout the fairgrounds. Some tasks may require standing, bending, working on roofs, ladders, and scaffolding. Exposure to inclement weather, and dangers associated with power tools, large equipment, and electricity are present in this role. The work schedule is subject to change, general winter hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and summer hours are 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. with some weekends and evenings. This role requires working extended hours every day prior to and during the annual State Fair, and larger non-fair events, as well as being on call. During peak activity times this position works extra daily hours and has periods with no days off.
