Building Administrator, New River Valley Reset Program

Fiscal Agent:  Pulaski County Public Schools

Position Title: Building Administrator
Reports To: Superintendent of the Fiscal Agent
FLSA Status: Exempt
Terms of Employment: 10 months, 200 days, 7.5 hours per day
Salary Level: Licensed
Salary Scale: 10-Month Assistant Principal Salary Scale

About the NRV Reset Program

Program Overview

NRV Reset offers a comprehensive alternative educational and therapeutic day school experience designed to meet the diverse needs of students facing academic, behavioral, and emotional challenges. The program integrates rigorous academic instruction with individualized therapeutic support, creating a holistic approach to student development and long-term success.

The Building Principal will play a vital leadership role in shaping a safe, supportive, and innovative school culture where students can reconnect with learning, develop positive relationships, and build pathways toward future success.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Instructional Leadership

  • Assist in the supervision and evaluation of instructional staff.
  • Support curriculum implementation, instructional improvement, and student achievement initiatives.
  • Monitor student academic progress and support intervention planning.
  • Foster innovative and individualized approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Participate in professional development planning and instructional coaching.

Therapeutic and Student Support Leadership

  • Promote a positive, trauma-informed, and restorative school culture.
  • Support therapeutic programming and collaboration with mental health professionals.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, behavior intervention planning, and student support meetings.
  • Support student attendance, engagement, and successful transitions back to traditional settings when appropriate.

School Administration

  • Assist in the daily operation and management of the NRV Reset Program.
  • Help develop and implement school procedures, expectations, and operational systems.
  • Coordinate schedules, activities, transportation, and supervision assignments.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports required by the school division and state agencies.
  • Assist with state testing coordination and assessment programs.

Personnel and Staff Support

  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, supervising, and retaining highly qualified staff.
  • Foster collaboration, morale, and professional growth among faculty and support personnel.
  • Support substitute coordination and staff supervision.
  • Encourage a team-oriented environment focused on student success and wellness.

Safety and Compliance

  • Assist in implementing school safety plans and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and School Board policies.
  • Participate in crisis response planning and safety drills.
  • Maintain a secure, orderly, and therapeutic educational environment.

 

Family and Community Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and school programming.
  • Collaborate with regional agencies, service providers, and school divisions to support student success.
  • Represent the NRV Reset Program and Giles County, Pulaski County and Radford City Public Schools professionally in meetings and community events.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree and appropriate endorsement in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field required.
  • Previous successful teaching experience required.
  • Master’s degree in special education or a related field preferred.
  • Previous administrative or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in alternative education, special education, behavioral support, or therapeutic settings preferred.

Certification Requirements

  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with Administration and Supervision endorsement.

 Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in a school environment.
  • May require prolonged standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to respond appropriately in emergency situations.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Pulaski County Public Schools policies and administrative regulations.
