Location: Bridge Operator, Charleston, OR - Days & Evenings shifts
The Bridge Operator is an essential part of our Bridge operations team. He or she is responsible for operations of the Charleston Bridge as well as communications about bridge openings up and down the Oregon Coast. It is vital he or she can exercise critical thinking and meticulous attention to detail.
In addition, the Bridge Operator has the following responsibilities:
- Follow and apply established traffic and transportation control procedures.
- Explain traffic and transportation situations concisely.
- Must possess the ability to stay alert while responsible for bridge operations.
- Maintain safe work environment
- Operate bridges
- Operate radio beacon broadcasting equipment and two-way radio.
- Perform safety inspections in transportation setting.
- Prepare reports, process records and maintain forms and files in timely manner.
- Must possess the capabilities to act in a calm and rational manner and follow strict procedures in an emergency.
- Read and understand operating manuals.
- Regulate marine traffic.
- Understand, use, and communicate technical information and instructions.
- Use basic mathematics.
- Use marine signaling techniques.
- All other duties as assigned to ensure that the department and organizational strategic goals and mission are met.
Required qualifications:
- Must be able to pass federal, state, and local background checks
- Must pass drug test to include random drug testing
- Must be able to climb up and down stairs
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English clearly
