The Team Gymnastics Coach is responsible for the delivery of quality gymnastics classes to school-age children, while maintaining a safe environment and incorporating the YMCA’s Mission and Core Values.
This position is a competitive gymnastics coach. The ideal candidate will need to have gymnastics experience and be willing to attend competitions on weekends.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and train gymnastic skills and equipment
Supervise and instruct participants on proper use of equipment
Maintain a safe environment at all times
Understand and enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures
Keep equipment in good condition by returning to storage area at end of class and notifying supervisor when equipment needs to be repaired
Stay informed about the program specifics such as session dates, prices, classes, days, and times
Work with the program director to ensure all participants are registered and in the correct class
Maintain accurate records of class attendance
Distribute certificates of achievement and program evaluations to class participants
Show enthusiasm, leadership, fairness, and fun through coaching style
Communicate with parents regarding program evaluations and participant progress
Immediately notify supervisor regarding participant or parent incidents
Attend training events and instructor clinics when made available
Encourage positive social skills and appropriate behavior; lead by example
The physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills
Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policiesand procedures
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum of 16 years of age or older
If actively enrolled in high school, a valid school district Work Permit is required
18 years of age or older, licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
2+ years’ of gymnastics instruction experience required
Ability to spot school-age children in basic skills
Knowledge of gymnastics equipment
Familiar with USA Gymnastics progressive levels
CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
American Red Cross
American Heart Association
American Safety & Health Institute
