Job Summary

About the Position:

The Mohave County Sheriffs Office is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time, 24 hours per week, Boating Safety Technician in the Boating Safety Division.

This position requires an individual who is both team-oriented and capable of working independently. The technician will coordinate with mechanics, parts suppliers, and various vendors to schedule maintenance and repairs for the divisions boating fleet and SUVs.

The role involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including sun, wind, rain, heat, and cold. Travel throughout the county will be required, along with regular interaction with the public. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, effective communication, and a commitment to supporting the mission of the Boating Safety Division.

  • MUST pass drug screen post offer
  • MUST posses a valid Drivers License for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs of Sheriff fleet vehicles to include boats, off highway vehicles, trailers, and other ancillary items.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail including receiving, sorting, and distributing.
  • Prepares and maintains records and files.
  • Performs minor repairs at the facility to include touch-up paint, changing light bulbs, replacing bilge pumps, changing hardware, minor vehicle and watercraft electrical work, and other related tasks.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of supplies.
  • Assists and rides on Sheriff's watercraft, off highway vehicles, and other Office transportation.
  • Conducts minor preventative or routine maintenance to buildings, docks, or any other items used by The Sheriff's Office Division of Boating Safety.
  • Safely operates and maneuvers watercraft, vehicles, trailers, and off highway vehicles.
  • Coordinates with supervision to ensure all mission critical equipment is in good working order

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
  • Two (2) years of education and / or experience in performing preventative maintenance and repair on vehicles, watercraft, and off highway vehicles.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Standard office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • File maintenance and record keeping.
  • Methods, tools, and materials used in simple parts vehicle replacement.
  • Use and care of a variety of maintenance equipment, mechanical hand and power tools.
  • Ability to inspect, remove and reinstall standard maintenance parts.
  • Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures, and Department Regulations.
  • Safe, effective use and care of tools and equipment.
  • Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
  • Understand and to carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Perform routine tasks with manual dexterity, physical coordination, and stamina.
  • Demonstrate initiative and reliability in learning and performing assigned tasks.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation.
