RESPONSIBILITIES

This is an awesome opportunity to work in a highly supportive environment and make a real difference in the life of a child. Work in a truly collaborative environment with administrators, counselors, and educators. Programming at Parkway School supports students, grades K-12, who have emotional/behavioral disabilities, Autism, and/or other neurological differences. Students remain enrolled in their own district with the goal of transitioning back.

Responsibilities for this position include the following:

• Direct Student Support & Crisis Intervention Provide immediate, 1:1 behavioral support to students in active crisis, utilizing trauma-informed de-escalation techniques to ensure safety and emotional regulation. Facilitate "in-the-moment" stabilization, transitioning students from crisis back to a regulated state through evidence-based coping strategies. Assess the function of behavior in real-time within the classroom environment to adapt interventions immediately as student needs evolve.

• Staff Coaching & "In-Vivo" Mentorship Role-model effective intervention strategies by working directly alongside teachers and paraprofessionals, demonstrating how to implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) during high-stress transitions or incidents. Provide live, "shoulder-to-shoulder" coaching to staff, offering immediate feedback and physical modeling of supportive behavioral techniques. Bridge the gap between theory and practice by translating complex behavioral data into actionable, easy-to-follow classroom routines for the instructional team. Act as the trainer for Crisis Prevention and Intervention techniques.

• Clinical Design & Trauma-Informed Programming Evaluate students in their home district to help determine placement, participate in the intake process, and support student transition back to their resident districts. Develop and refine Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) that prioritize emotional safety, neuro-affirming practices, and the specific needs of students with significant trauma histories. Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and holistic evaluations that integrate data from multiple sources, including environmental triggers and physiological dysregulation. Design and lead social-emotional learning (SEL) opportunities, including small-group or individual sessions focused on self-advocacy and emotional literacy.

• Collaboration & Advocacy Serve as a core member of the multidisciplinary team, collaborating with administrators, counselors, teachers, and families to ensure a "whole-child" approach to behavioral health. Lead post-crisis debriefs with staff to analyze incidents, identify precursors, and adjust programming to prevent future escalation. Design and deliver high-impact professional development on topics such as neuro-diversity, trauma-responsive classrooms, and the ethics of behavioral support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Certification

Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)®: Current certification in good standing with the BACB. Education: Master's degree or higher in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field. Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification desired. (If not currently certified, CESA 1 will help the candidate become certified.)

Essential Experience

Trauma-Informed Practice: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with children or adolescents who have experienced significant trauma and/or have Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD). Crisis Management: Proven experience in high-intensity crisis intervention and de-escalation (e.g., Safety-Care, CPI, or PCM). Neuro-Affirming Care: Demonstrated experience supporting neurodivergent students (Autism, ADHD, etc.) using strategies that prioritize autonomy and sensory needs over strict compliance. Staff Training: Experience in coaching or behavior skills training (BST) where you have successfully mentored teachers or paraprofessionals in a classroom setting.

Clinical Skills & Competencies

Functional Assessment: Proficiency in conducting FBAs that look beyond surface-level behavior to identify physiological, environmental, and trauma-based triggers. Adaptability: The ability to remain calm and analytical under pressure during active student dysregulation. Collaborative Mindset: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team (Social Workers, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists). Data Literacy: Ability to collect and analyze data in a way that is meaningful for classroom teachers and can be used to pivot interventions quickly. Experience with Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) or similar non-punitive behavioral frameworks. Knowledge of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curricula (e.g., Zones of Regulation, Second Step, DBT in Schools).

Our Essential Skills

Agile, demonstrating a growth mindset by leveraging flexibility, resilience, and change. Highly collaborative, working with others to achieve a common goal in a way that promotes representation and participation by all. Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communicator who expresses ideas and information with clarity and respect aligned to an intended audience and purpose. Thinks critically to analyze multiple perspectives, contexts, and data to creatively question, make connections, and evaluate options leading to reasonable conclusions with on-going reflection for future improvements. Empathetically engages with others to understand and recognize their perspectives, experiences, and emotions. Practices self management to leverage one's abilities and emotions to direct one's path as a resilient lifelong learner.

Physical Requirements

This position requires that the BCBA be able to move quickly, potentially move from a seated to a standing position rapidly, and may involve physical management/restraint as a last resort.
