Education and Experience: Associates Degree or higher in Biology, Environmental Science, Public Health, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Laboratory Science or related field; or 30 hours of college credits in science, public health, homeland security or related field, plus one (1) year of experience in field-based studies, field data collection, scientific research, public health and safety, or a related field.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Drivers License or equivalent from another state by date of appointment.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, performs basic aspects of BioWatch filter preparation, installation, collection, transportation, and documentation of environmental air-monitoring filters. Supports public health surveillance efforts through adherence to federal, state, and local program network requirements.

Typical Duties

Perform field and office duties related to the day-to-day operation of the Citys BioWatch program network. Involves: Prepare, install, inspect, collect, and transport BioWatch filters in accordance with established protocols and schedules. Operate and maintain BioWatch sampling equipment and associated monitoring devices. Follow all BioWatch Program Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality assurance requirements, and chain-of-custody procedures. Accurately document sampling activities, equipment inspections, maintenance records, and field observations using electronic and manual reporting systems. Conduct routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs as trained. Assist with inventory management, equipment calibration, and supply tracking. Support emergency response activities and special operations related to biological surveillance and public health preparedness. Maintain security and confidentiality of sensitive program information and monitoring locations. Prepare reports and maintain records related to sampling activities and program operations.

Administrative duties. Involves organizing and maintaining equipment, supplies, and program records. Assist with data entry, report preparation, and document management. Coordinate with laboratory personnel, program partners, and designated monitoring site representatives. Perform other related duties as assigned.
