  • Maintains clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan. Demonstrates a mastery of skills and tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex biomedical equipment. Capable of educating others including clinical staff related to the technical integration of the device/system.

Education/Training

  • High School diploma
  • Bachelor's degree or military training, or academic work aligned with AAMI's Core Competencies for the Biomedical Equipment Technician
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry and English.
  • Advanced professional skills, including increased levels of certification and training.
  • Comprehensive understanding of computer and networking peripherals, anatomy, physiology and clinical terminology.

Licenses/Certification:

  • CBET (will be required within first two years of employment)

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5 plus years of technical experience.
  • Exhibits an advanced understanding of common medical equipment.
  • Can provide advanced support of acuity equipment for direct patient care.
  • Demonstrated in depth understanding of supported operations and environment, such as hospital, clinic, etc.
  • Has advanced experience in the clinical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including command of verbal and written English.
  • Positive interpersonal communication skills.
  • Can successfully solve organization-level customer service issues and complaints.
  • Ability to lead others as needed in a team-oriented environment.
  • Adept at learning on the job as well as teaching and mentoring others.
  • Ability to function as a "Subject Matter Expert" on high-acuity clinical devices and systems in specialized acute care areas.
  • Demonstrates a mastery of clinical equipment such as radiological, laboratory and network medical systems so that work beyond single devices can be appropriately accomplished.
  • Can teach basic skills to Level 2 technicians.
  • Strong documentation and organization skills.
  • Electronics troubleshooting skills to the board level.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant codes and accreditation requirements.
  • Able to work flexible hours as needed, including on call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical technology, electronics, or a related science
  • CHTM Certification
  • Experience with DNV accreditation visits
  • Advance knowledge and experience of project management.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs inspections of demo, trial, and returned clinical equipment.
  • Performs initial acceptance test for patient care and other electrical equipment.
  • Performs inventory assessment of all newly received equipment and documents findings.
  • Performs repairs on complex medical equipment or coordinates repair services.
  • Monitors work performed by outside contractors to ensure requirements are met and results are documented properly.
  • Performs operational verification evaluation of questionable equipment performances.
  • Performs investigation of equipment related incidents.
  • Schedules and performs maintenance according to established maintenance strategies and procedures including: inspecting, calibrating, adjusting, lubricating, repairing or replacing components.
  • Removes equipment for parts replacement, repair or from service.
  • Modifies equipment per factory field modification orders.
  • Acquires and liaison with factory service personnel.
  • Documents all work performed in CMMS.
  • Reports pertinent equipment incidents and findings to Manager, Director, and Nursing Administration, Risk Manager or responsible party.
  • Operates CMMS and other computer programs and applications.
  • Orders, expedites, and installs repair parts and service.
  • Installs and removes major components of monitoring and telemetry systems.
  • Verifies that all test equipment utilized meets current N.I.S.T. standards.
  • Updates specific P.M. procedures and departmental policies.
  • Adds new equipment to CMMS.
  • Performs general, secondary or emergency tasks as needed or assigned.
  • Complies with all institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all federal, state and local regulations, codes and standards.

The pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education. For annual salaries this is based on full-time employment.
