Overview:

Purpose Statement/Position Summary:

The Biomedical Equipment Tech II assists the Biomedical Engineering Department with all aspects and the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan. Performs a variety of routine tasks associated with the acquisition planning, installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment under minimal supervision. Ensure all program components support accrediting agencies and various other state and local codes that relate to electrical and mechanical equipment safety.

 

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:
Required:
• 5 years of related hospital experience plus an Associates of Science Degree, or
• 3 years of relevant work experience in a hospital plus a Bachelor’s of Science degree in a related field, or
• 5 years of active duty in a direct MOS specializing in biomedical equipment maintenance or equivalent, plus completion of academic coursework from an accredited institution that is aligned with AAMIs Core Competencies for Biomedical Equipment Technicians, which includes knowledge in:

o Electronics and electrical systems
o Anatomy and physiology
o Medical equipment maintenance and repair
o Regulatory compliance and safety standards
o IT and networking integration

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Advanced knowledge of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment.
• Advanced knowledge of medical equipment nomenclature and the types and uses of various medical equipment.
• Expert knowledge of basic hand tools and test equipment.
• Advanced knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to the use of biomedical equipment.
• Knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of the application of computers and servers and their interface with medical equipment.
• Knowledge of networking and cybersecurity for medical equipment.
• Advanced ability to use computer software for preparing documents and spreadsheets.
• Advanced ability to troubleshoot, read schematics, and understand manufacturer user and maintenance manuals for repairing and maintaining medical equipment.
• Advanced ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role, including data entry into and querying information in an equipment maintenance database.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment, push/pull equipment carts, kneel, stand, bend, and reach during equipment repair.
• Advanced skill in testing electronic equipment.
• Manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and accurate color vision.
• Driver’s license and ability to drive to offsite locations to perform work.

 

Education/Licensure/Certifications:
Required: Associate of Science Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience and training (e.g., military training or AAMI-aligned academic coursework).

Preferred:
• AAMI Credentials Institute (ACI) Certification for Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates who meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates who exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
