Sansom Staffing has partnered with a growing printing and bindery company in Brooklyn Park to add a Bindery Cutter Operator to their team.
This role is responsible for operating a SABER hydraulic guillotine cutter alongside a paper jogger to accurately trim printed materials in a high-volume trade bindery environment. The ideal candidate will take pride in producing clean, precise cuts while maintaining efficiency and adhering to strict quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate SABER hydraulic paper cutter (programming, back gauge, clamp settings)
- Use a paper jogger to align and square lifts before cutting
- Read and interpret job tickets, cut programs, and layouts
- Program and execute automated cutting sequences for repeat jobs
- Accurately cut large sheets of paper to tight tolerances
- Monitor and adjust: Clamp Pressure, Blade depth, and condition, and back gauge positioning
- Inspect finished product for square cuts, correct dimensions, and clean edges
- Maintain efficient workflow between jogging → cutting → stacking
- Perform routine maintenance on blade changes, tracking sharpness, cleaning, and lubrication
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating SABER or similar hydraulic guillotine cutters
- Familiarity with paper joggers and material handling workflows
- Ability to program or recall cutting sequences
- Strong understanding of grain direction, lift handling, and cutting tolerances
- Proficiency with measurements (fractions, decimals, metric)
- High attention to detail and consistency
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Ability to safely handle large paper lifts (often 50+ lbs)
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years in a trade bindery or commercial print environment
- Experience with large-format cutters (36"–60")
- Familiarity with SABER X-15 or similar models
- Knowledge of upstream/downstream processes (press, folding, stitching, etc.)
